Hey guys, I was hoping to get a more exact answer to this. My question is can I use a 6bolt motor in a 2g legally in autocross, SCCA ESP class? I was reading threw the rule book and it says this "Equipment and/or specifications may be exchanged between different
years and models of a vehicle if:
(a) the item is standard on the year/model from which it was taken,
and
(b) the years/models are listed on the same line of Appendix A (Street
Prepared Classes).
The updated/backdated part or the part to which it is to be attached
may not be altered, modified, machined, welded, or otherwise
changed to facilitate the updating/backdating allowance. Standard
factory installation methods, locations, and configurations are allowed.
The updating and/or backdating of engines, transmissions,
transaxles, and/or unibodies must be done as a unit; component
parts and specifications of these units may not be interchanged.
Cars not listed in the Street Prepared sections of Appendix A may
not be updated/backdated until approved by the SEB and published
in the official SCCA publication."

The 90-99 Eclipse GSX is in the same section of appendix A so i think that it is legal to use 1g bov on a 2g. Or a 6-bolt longblock in a 2g.

Thanks guys!

Its a bit of a gray area because you need to trim and use a 2g driver's side motor mount, and slightly modify the timing cover. I think you also need to use the 2g timing belt tensioner arm/pulley.

You would probably be safe getting away with it. I know the saturn people get away with running a variety of different generation OEM parts. I think its called a "deebs build" supposed to bump compression a few points and use the best combination of head/block/intake/throttle body parts.

The way I read the rules it's not allowed, but unless your competitors are the type to protest Miata tow hook removal, you'd be ok.

Its not in Autocross. The rules for Rallycross are slightly different.

Yes its against the rules because your not using the entire engine. No your not gonna get hit for it unless someone is very very anal.

I'm pretty sure that back-dating to a 1G BOV/CBV has not been permitted for some time.

Only if they undid the change that I helped to get made about 7 or 8 years ago, when we got them to allow CBVs to be updated/backdated separately from everything else.

As to the engine, if you need to do anything to the chassis to get the motor mounts to fit, you're SOL.

Ok cool thanks for the input. It's just so hard to find a stock 97-99 GSX in my area. But there are two GSX's that both have 6-bolt swaps, but I don't want one of those unless I can race it legaly in ESP. I'll just keep looking for that stock 97-99 GSX... :dsm:

Since I'm the one that got into the 6/7-bolt swap with the SPAC, I can tell you for a fact that it is no longer legal. A 'minor clarification' of the engine mount rule a couple of seasons ago went from "engine mounts are free' to 'engine mounts are free but must be physically identical to OEM with no dimensional changes at all'. The engine mount rules are now more restrictive than they've ever been, ever since they were first allowed to be non-OEM. You may not get protested locally, but you'd get thrown out of a Div, Tour or Pro in a heartbeat.

A rule rewrite in the middle of the season }-[

CBVs were always free up until a rule clarification mid-season some years ago. A season or so later they were reinstated as free. Not just update/backdate, but free. This all happened donkeys years ago - 2002 ? Fedja was still running back then, so that mess had to clear up by 2003 at the latest. It was either the year before or the year after the pillowball suspension mount debacle.
