I have a 1995 awd talon and i know a guy who wants to sale his 2003 wrx sti stock gold wheels, and i was wondering if they will fit?

Get us some dimensions for the wheels and we'll be able to let you know for sure.

The offset is likely too deep considering the maximum Mitsu offered from the factory was +46 on the 17" GSX wheels, which were 6.5" wide. Also, our lug pattern is 5x114.3 (sometimes referred to as 5x100+4).

Hope that helps.

hahahhahahahah, yeah yeah........ OOOOOoooooooops 215mm to be exact!!!!!! added the width into height.......... YEAH, MORE LIKE AN 18 WHEELER!!!!!!!!! SORRY BOUT THAT!!!!! ROFL

for USDM, 2005 STi wheels and later have the 5x114.3 lugs.

That's good info to know, but the original poster is interested in 2003 wheels which are 5x100.

actually they are off a 2005 i just found out.

If the bolt circle is 5x114.3, they'll fit on the studs. The big concern is the offset. A 6.5" wheel at +46mm is very close already and if these are 7 or 7.5" you may rub the suspension depending on how low the car is. If you plan on buying these, you may want to look into a set of proper wheel spacers and new studs.

You could always bring your car by if you're local, take off a wheel and see how it fits for yourself, but I can tell you now, you'll be cutting it a bit close.

So, according to the tire calculator, if I wanted to use 18" wheels my best bet for tires would be 235/40-18. Does that sound about right for a wider tire that will fit nicely, and read correctly on the speedometer?

EDIT: I forgot to add that I was looking into the Motegi FF5s, which come in 18x7, or 18x8. Whichever width would be better. The 18x7s come in an offset of +42, and the 18x8s come in an offset of +30, or +37.

i work in a tire warehouse 215 divided by 45 is how high the tire is from the rim to the top,

you work at a warehouse, yet your horribly wrong,... if that was true, a 30 would be taller than a 45.... which it isnt...
215/30= 7.1666666666

while 215/45=4.777777

so the 45 would be smaller.... nice try tho.... but its the percent, the larger the percent, the larger the tire.... and most aftermarket truck tires go by the (#### i forgot the name....) american? system, whatever the hell inches and all that stuff is a part of.... and they go by tire hieght, rim size, and one other dimension that slipped my mind because it doesnt really matter

You forgot to tell us your existing and future suspension modifications and overall goals:

Sheesh, one of these days I'm going to make a Tire Size Recommendation Request Form. It will be something like this:

TIRE SIZE RECOMMENDATION REQUEST QUESTIONNAIRE

1. I have read the FAQs and Tech Articles:
a) Yes, but I just need someone with experience to validate my choices.
b) No, I want a bunch of people I never met to tell me what to do.

2. My driving style is:
a) Street only, but I want to look really cool.
b) Street only, but I like to feel secure on twisty roads.
c) Street and Strip.
d) Street and Autocross.
e) Other

3. I expect my total suspension project to cost:
a) $0-$500
b) $500-$1000
c) $1000-$2000
d) $200-$3000
e) The sky's the limit.

4. My current or future suspension will be lowered
a) One inch or less
b) One to 1.5 inches
c) 1.5 - 2 inches
d) Slammed in the weeds

Hell, looks like I already did it.

yeah, thats actually an OUTSTANDING guide LOL
I really like answer b for question one, cuz its probably one EVERYONE will circle

As for what you said, I believe your best bet is to really read that form, and figure out what your FINAL product is going to be. I wish I had read even MORE than I did when I picked up my rims, but I got an INCREDIBLE deal, and thats why I did so. Just know that after you do wheels, you have to pick a tire...and remember, if you are going to be doing mods, you're going to want pretty good tires because you want them to grip well for a good period of time....if you plan on doing your suspension, like I know I am, I know that I'm going to need a camber kit...I mean theres tons of things that go into suspension, I don't even know it all yet, I learn as I get the money for the parts i *want* and realize that you can't always just buy what you want, you have to buy something else to make sure that what you want works correct, and then you come to find out what you want isnt even what you really DO want...

So just try and do some research, look at that form that wret wrote up and answer the questions to yourself, write out what you think you want, and go from there...good luck with it all

damn my thread came back from the dead. I'm holding off on the wheels and tires for now and make it fast LOL. I'm addicted to speed now. Before summer gets here though i will be rolling on either Racing Hart c2's, or some enkei's.

Hey everyone, I really need some new tires on my Talon, the current ones are maybe 20% tread left. The ones on there right now are 215/50-17. Im curious is this a good size for handling/traction, or does someone out there like a different size? I think they look good, I just cant really track them down at local tire shops for some reason. 215/45-17 is WAY more common.. :/.

So far the best tires I've ever used have been BFGoodrich G-Force (I think they were sports) not very water friendly, but on a dry day it turns anything into a back-road joy.

If you are looking for traction and handling, a wider tire would be better. Start looking at 225/45 or even 235/45 tires for starters especially if you have aftermarket wheels that are at least 7.5 inches wide. The choice of tire brand is a whole different discussion that has been covered before, a search in the handling section will pull up the latest greatest opinions on choice rubber.
