Resolved 2G What is the part number/size of the bolts that hold in the 1Ga CAS (camshaft angle sensor) to the head of the engine?

Hi everybody, I have a 1ga camshaft angle sensor (CAS) installed on my '95 GSX. It's the silver colored circular CAS that bolts on to the tranny-side of the engine head from the early 1g DSM's.

The Good:
  • It works perfectly (installed correctly at the right angle, car runs smooth).
  • It's in their snug and I can't move/nudge/shake it with my hand.
The Bad:
  • It is able to be held in by 2 bolts, but I only have 1 holding it in, which is the one on the right side, if you were staring straight at the CAS head on.
  • I have no clue where the other one is and it's been long gone for a while.
My Question (which is really 2):
  • Is it such an issue to only have it held in by one bolt if it's in there tight?
  • If not, what is the part number or the size of this bolt so I can buy another?
I'm writing it in this format because I'll have messy paragraphs. I already searched for a good hour on the forums and in the service manual trying to find out to no avail. Thank you.

I don't know the OEM part number.
If you buy them generically it would be like this:
They are 8mm x 1.25mm JIS hex head bolts. Flange head without any washers is what I have on my car (see picture).
Thread is M8 x 1.25
Wrench size for the JIS type bolt is 12mm.
Length of the threaded part would be either 20mm or 25mm.
You should have 4 turns or more of thread engagement to finger tight.

Be sure to get zinc plated bolts. Not black oxide, which is poor for rust.

Here's the page where I would buy these bolts generically. These are class 10.9 which is a high strength class. I would buy some 20mm and some 25mm and what the heck, buy a few extra to have on hand at home...

Not sure how serious to run with only 1 bolt but I wouldn't.
Here they are on my car. This is a 1ga type CAS on a 1g 6-bolt engine.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the one he is missing was a stud and nut combo originally, but 2 bolts is fine. One bolt would probably be ok, but if it ever loosened up, your timing would be all out of wack and if it fell out then the car would die. We don't want to hear that story so go to the hardware store (I go to Fastenal, but a True Value or Ace Hardware etc would be ok if they had the 10.9 grade stuff, which I usually only find at Fastenal) and grab a couple bolts and hold it in proper.
