I no longer use the factory instrument cluster in my car, so I lost the VSS signal to my ECU. I need it for boost control and 2step vs. NLTS.

I have heard that others have swapped a 2G VSS into a 1G before. I searched and found that people have mentioned 1995-1996 2G's will swap in. I ordered the sensor from Rock Auto and then the speedo gear from the dealer.

This is not the correct part/combo for the swap. The new sensor is too long and places the gear much lower in relation to the original.

Does anyone know what the correct parts are for the conversion? All of the prior threads on this topic don't describe or show pictures of the correct part.

This is what I have:

I ended up using the below parts and it fit up fine and looked the same as the one I took out in terms of what stuck into the transmission.

MD746492: Drive gear
MD756606: VSS

If I remember right this 2g VSS sticks out of the transmission much more (leaves room for electronics internal to the sensor I assume) but that was okay as I had space and was making a new pigtail for it anyway.

Sorry for bringing this threat back to life.

How did you solve this issue? I'm doing the same thing.

Did you ever find which 2G VSS gear and which 2G VSS sensor body you needed in order for it to install into a 1G transmission?

I have a 1G AWD and I need to wire up a 2G VSS to work with my ECMLink (1g speedo cable is gone).

But I see that 2 - 2G AWD gears (MD746492 and MD749150) and 2 - 2G AWD sensor bodies (MD756606 and MD749149) are available.

The long body is from an auto 2g. I THINK a manual 2g sensor is necessary since it has a shorter end shaft at the gear. I’m about to do this myself. Refer to pics

Looks like there are 3 different speedo driven gears and 2 different speed sensors. I don't know what the difference is or anything. It just seemed like info that might be helpful in some way.
