Im in the middle of riping out some of my interior piece and I came accross 2 ECU look alikes that I ahve no idea what they are. I have one under my center console and one underneath my glovebox mounted on the fenderwall. Any idea what these are? I think one is for my cruise control (which i no longer have) and the other for my auto tranny (which i am still in the middle of swaping for a 5 speed).

Here's a pic from a '96 service manual that shows the general location of all ecu's-

The one in the center console behind where the ECU goes is the TCU (tranny). The one in the kick panel on the right side is the factory antitheft system. If you're talking about the one that's behind the glove box if you take it out, then that's the AC control.

-EDIT-

Sorry that's for 1G; 2G would be different.

No, I got a manual for it and at school I have all data I have been using also. In alldata it says they are one thing, and in chiltians it says another. I dont want to go and remove anything I still may need, thats why I came ask on the forums.

:nono:
listen to defiant LOL :thumb:

First off you didn't get that info from ALLDATA you got it from NODATA :sneaky: as all the instructors at DMACC (#1 automotive school in nation last 6 years over Whyotech and everyone) call it. Alldata sux, if any thing use caps or the online discs even your chiltons is better.
I work with nodata when i have to and it is no good. i just finished my ace certification at DMACC and advanced electricity is the last thing i had to take, don't use Alldata for information unless it is last resort, PLEASE. You'll end up chasing your tail with there shitty diagrams and misprinted information :barf: . Not to bust on you, i used to think it was the shit too at the beginning of my time there. You will learn quickly it is crap, even the cap program doesn't use it (Chrysler program) or our ASEP (GM) or out ASET (Ford) and especially what i took general auto (ASE) everyone thinks Alldata is great, well its not once you use it more than 3 times. Try dealership sites much better even your Chiltons.

Oh and by the way, your auto comp is behind your ECU mounted flat against ground behind center console between firewall, next to shift cable exit at firewall. Any connectors you see that are bright blue or bright yellow (not like ecu's lime color, like steering pivot wheel on back of steering wheel) are usually part of the SRS system, don't touch, unless car has been discharged for more than an hour with no parasitic drain (under 40mA usually) going threw the system. It takes something like .2amps to blow a bag. In school we just connected with jumper wires to airbag and touched a 9v battery to the leads and boom :thumb: one big ass dent in the 25ft ceiling :nono:

Anyway, if you need any help shoot me a line ill help ya with anything ya need.

Good luck on your swap and work with you battery disconnected if your around the SRS systems, i know someone that had there neck broken and killed cause they accidently grounded a wire next to the unit, p.s. SRS unit is under center console in between backs of seats
good luck, be safe

Defiant is right, mess with the one under your centerconsole without your neg. bat cable removed, and you're gonna smell what high explosives smell like. Don't worry though, I heard they inflate and deflate withing a half a second or so.....
