Hi guys, unfortunately got myself into a pickle. Very much my fault, and definitely a stupid move. well I was attempting to open the transmission, I was following the guides on vfaq. I took off the outer case, removed the fork and both gears successfully and removed the 3 bolts with ball bearings in them..

My problem is that I believe I shifted the gears into 5th or R and attempted to remove the middle case. I can get the case apart about 2-3 inches, but it's stuck. I can't even move the shifter much anymore. Which leads me to believe its stuck somewhere on the shift selectors or something very near it. The middle and bottom shift rods go down about an inch into the case, so I don't believe they are the ones causing the snag. My believe is it is the 5th and R rod. (the top rod).

I'm really out of ideas, I can't get this damn thing unstuck. and I also can't put it back together. yes it is stuck that bad. my only idea is to somehow remove the shift rods from within the tranny with what very little room I have to that they can come out with the middle case when I pull up. Then from there Ill unsnag it and fix what I can.

I need ideas pretty much. Has anybody encountered this problem or knows what I'm talking about? Thanks in advanced.

Solution
There is a bolt on the side of the case that holds the reverse idler shaft. It's a 14mm head, on the same side of the trans that the axles go.
There is nothing more to remove. The rails slide though the case. If both gears are completely off and you're staring at two shaft ends just pull. You may have a small burr on the rail end. I can't quite rememnber on a fwd but you may also have to remove the reverse idler shaft bolt. Cant remember how many case sections on a fwd.
