2g timing with timing light

1997 gst 7 bolt checking base cam timing and everything seems to line up. Put a timing light on it and with light at 0 looks to be at the t Mark on harmonic balancer then when I put light on 5 degrees it moves away from the marks on harmonic balancer. Does this make sense to anyone? I also locked ignition with dsmlink and it is logging 5 degrees, however this is not what the timing light shows. Am I doing something wrong here could it be my light or is it possible for my timing to be a tooth (6*) off?

It sounds like your off a tooth on your intake cam, are you running a 1g cam sensor or the stock one?

Stock and how can I tell if it's intake or exhaust cam that's out 1 tooth?

Either both cams are one tooth off from the crank or its the intake cam thats one tooth off from the crank.
