2g talon has been knocking or ticking

My 2g talon has been knocking or ticking lately, I dont know exactly which what it is. I keep thinking that its rod knock, but the motor was rebuild 15k miles ago. Im also thinking its lifter tick, but im not exactly sure. When I changed the oil there was no metal shaving in the oil or anything metallic. I've got a mechanics stethoscope, but I cant exactly figure out what it is. What do you guys think it could be?

It's probably lifter tick due to the colder weather. I've heard that lucas oil stabilizer is a great cure for this.

I hope it is the lifter tick and not rod knock. What I'm going to do tommarow is drop the oil pan and check for shaving and play in the rods just to make sure, it scares me to drive it. Would I just add the stabilizer to the oil and then drain it after? Another thing if I drop the oilpan can i reuse my new filter, because I just put it on and didnt drive the car. I've read that people say using mobil1 oil helps also, should I use this oil from now on?

It is a good oil to use. A local dsm builder around here sugests using Rotella T 15w40 Diesil oil due to the high zinc content. If the noise is mainly at idle then you're probly ok. just get some 3g lifters. If it gets louder as you rev the engine and really starts to sound like a rod knock then thereis an easier way to check for it. just rev the engine p to where you can really hear the knock then pull the spark plug wires one at a time. If the knock goes away when you pull the plug then you know that you have a spun rod in that cylinder.

try using Engine Restorer. It is a known help for the 1g lifter tick. i've used it on 3 dsms with great luck. i like the 6cylinder bottle

wrong oil maybe?? ..... you need a light weight oil for cold weather....

I used 5w30 since it cold outside, as for the noise it doesnt seem to get louder as I rev it.

Knocking and ticking should sound nothing alike. If it's not increasing in volume, what about frequency?

How old are your spark plug wires? sounds like elec. arcing,

I'm not sure what that is, but I wouldn't run it anymore until it's fixed.

This doesn't sound like Rod Knock, it seems to high pitched for that.

Is there a crack in your manifold by any chance?
That or your Timing belt is loose and slapping something.

Mine is doing a nock sound too but not like that. I'm scared it's a rod but I'm gonna start it up tomorrow if it's nice so I can record it and find out
