I've been searching forums all day and can't find answer I'm looking for......The car has been fine up till now. I got into my 95 TSI AWD this morning to go to the store and it wouldn't go into reverse. I wiggled the shifter and it went in, but made a grinding noise so I put it back in neutral and tried the other gears---nothing--like hitting a wall. I shut it down and it goes into all gears while not running. I held in the clutch and tried starting it in 1st and it started but made a rubbing/grinding noise, but didn't try to move. I know that my slave cylinder is leaking and that is first on the list to replace on Friday when I can work on it. Would a bad slave be causing this (I know its been leaking for a while and its been driveable) or is it something more serious with the clutch or tranny? Any help would be appreciated because I have limited time to work on this and need to know if I should plan on dropping the trans. :notgood: I'm really starting to hate 2gs, my 1g has treated me much better

Short answer is yes a failing/leaking slave cylinder can absolutely cause this problem. It sounds like your clutch is simply not disengaging. You could try bleeding the clutch system to try to get by, but that's a big if depending on the condition of the hydraulics.

Did you check your clutch fluid level to start your diagnosis?

Thank you, this makes me feel a little better...the fluid looked like it was up there, but I didn't take off the cap and I know that rubber makes it look higher than it is. I will definitely check that first. I was just too angry to mess with it any more. this car is a real beeotch---nothing but a gold digging ho:banghead:
