Ok, here's the deal. My 95 TSI AWD stopped going into gear while it was running all of sudden. I changed the master and slave cylinders because both were leaking and bleed the system correctly. Still no change. I thought maybe a bad TOB. I got a new clutch and all related parts because I have no idea what is in it now or how old it is, so I figured it would be best to change everything. Today I started taking it apart and found out that one of the bolts on the shifter bracket (the one that bolts to the trans and the cables clip onto) is missing. I think now that this is what caused my problem from what I've searched, would this be correct?

My question now is do I put it back together and see if I have gears, or continue with the clutch change for piece of mind? The biggest factor here is the cold weather. Sorry for such a long post, just need some advice.

Had the same problem too on my 95 GSX... I was missing a bolt and it wouldnt shift right sometimes. I would just find a bolt and make sure your bracket is nice and tight. If your already pulled off your tranny then I would go ahead and change clutch and TOB while your there. And yes the cold weather sucks :p

if your talking about the bracket that bolts to the transmission housing, yes this will deff cause a problem with the car going into gear. ( this is located on the transmission almost directly under the radiator necks. ) You can see if it clicks into gear as soon as you reagline the bracket and bolt it back up. It should solve the problem imediatly, just move the shifter with the car off. I have had this problem in the past after changing my transmisssion. Another thing to check is the fork. If the car goes into gear when turned off but the clutch wont engage properly while running this can be due to the fork not engaging the clutch properly. ( even with a new master, slave, t.o.b. and clutch they will not work with a bent fork. ) If you have everything apart now and your changing so much, buying a new fork from extremepsi will not break the bank. it might just be a good idea so you dont need to redo all the work over again. Good luck, but try the bracket first.

I am used to cold weather. I would definitely just put the bolt back in and see if you have your gears. I am almost positive you will. I had this happen in my 92 Eagle Talon. Save yourself from the cold weather.
