2G JDM Engine??????

Hey guys
I'm all new to DSM, I have a 2g turbo talon AWD, and it had a bad accident and the engine in it is dead, so I was looking around to get a 7 bolt JDM.
What's the difference between JDM and EVO ? Are they the same engine for the 1995 models and up? I think that evo is a 6 bolt and it fits the 95 and up, but what about JDM engines for the 95 models and up ? Are the JDM engines 6 bolt or 7?

There is no "2G JDM" engine. You want an Evo engine, you'll have to get a Evo I, II or III to get the right orientation the Evo 3's are 7-bolt AFAIK. Plus, a few other things have to be changed to make it fit. So, it probably makes more fiscal sense to swap in a 6-bolt, or look into one of these shops that claim to have solved the CW problem and have your 7-bolt rebuilt.

I found a shop that sell's JDM engine for 1995 models and up and they said their from Japan, what kind is engine is that?.

You just have to ask, does the tranny sit on the right or on the left of the motor. 95+ sounds like Evo4 territory and those just won't work without intense fabrication.

It looks just like a my engine in my car now, it looks like a evo 3 engine not the evo 8.
So if they say its a JDM engine for 95+ they meen its a evo engine?

Yes because technically, the Eclipse was never offered in Japan. A few were exported TO Japan, but they all came from the Normal, IL plant. All JDM 4G63's came from Evos or 7G Galant VR4's or a few hotted up Outlanders and specialty cars they made over the years.

But then again, I don't understand the fascination with the JDM term anyway because if you look on your car's original sticker (if you still have it) it will say that the source for the engine and tranny were JAPAN. So you got a JDM engine stock. Hell, today's 3G's - are the same way.

Is the engine from these japanshops are they same as my engine? i heard their a little better and they wont cranwalk is it true?

Does the evo engine get crankwalk or not?I was reading about them a little and it seems like they got a bigger turbo too and i think some of them are 6 bolt, but i may be wrong.

Well, let me correct myself. I know the heads are the same. I believe the blocks are the same, but I'm not positive. I have never heard of any case of the EVO motors crankwalking, but they are far less common than the 2g motor.

yeah except for the pistons,rods and if i'm correct the heads flow better in evo's ...

i have heard of many evo engines crankwalking ... we just don't hear about it much because we aren't in japan working with evos on a regular basis. if am not mistaken all 4g63 engines are made in japan.

a 1g engine, which was put into all 89-93 cars is a "6 bolt" engine where 94+ is using a "7 bolt" engine. the difference between the two is basically internal components as far as the pistons and a little different compression rating. the 1g has a larger TB than the 2g, a weaker exhaust manifold and depending on the car, a different oil cooler. you have to ask yourself how much you want to spend and what you're wanting to do with the car before you decide between a 6 or a 7 bolt setup.

if you go the 6 bolt way, you'll find numerous different places that import them in from japan with claimed "50,000 miles" on them. i don't know about you, but a car that's ranging from 11-15 years old simply has more miles on it than that. they do a compression and leak down test on them and they spec out in the same area as a car that would generally have that kind of mileage. you will also have to purchase about $1,500.00 worth of parts to convert the engine to your 2g car. there are 2 motor mounts that have to be modified and several other pieces/parts you'll have to work in.

i've done all this to my car so i can tell you what a pain it could be for someone who doesn't have the knowledge to do.

I highly doubt that many of the motors they sell with "less than 40k miles" on them actually have more than that. When I was in Japan, I really saw very few older cars, mostly just Skylines (they're like THE family car in Japan, aside from the "boxes" that never make it to the States). Speaking of Skylines, a friend of mine just bought a '95 GTS25t, it only had 44k kilometers on it. That's less than 30k miles on a 10-year-old car. The Japanese don't hold on to cars for very long, and if they do then they don't drive them much.
