Is the 2g suppose to have any sort of Ding or tone or anything to remind you to turn off the lights, or better yet is there a way to mod my lights to turn off with the car :)

You can use a relay, clip the constant power wire, run the relay using the wire thats hot when turned on and there you go. Thought of doing it many times.

Yes there is a "dinger" if thats what you want to call it... It is controlled by the same switch that turns your interioir lights on when you open the door. If you have the driver side door open, and you are looking into the car as if you were about to get it, the switch is on the lower right hand side of the door jam. Im ASSuMEing that your light reminder isn't working. If this is the case, that switch probably broke. Mine did, and it was just getting bad a contact. So I fixed it, then it broke again, so i took it out. I might just take the switch from the passanger side

But I do like your idea of wiring the lights to the ignition switch! never though of that one :thumb:

well i have the mirror lights if thats what you mean by interior lights and those come on when i unlock the door , going to test to see if they actually come on when i open it, Ive yet to hear any "Ding" since i bought the car and hve left my lights on twice :-( Its no fun so I would really like to just take care of the problem all together and get them to shut off with the ignition. If anyone has any more info pls help :)

I am not an electrical engineer, I am not sure how much current this will pull, if the relay can overheat and cause a fire or anything of the kind, so anyone better informed than me step up. This is what I believe will accomplish the effect desired.

Check that link for the relay

From Vfaqs for the 2nd gen we have the ignition wire as black and white and the headlights wire is red. Another suitable wire would be power for the radio, or maybe accesories to replace the ignition wire.

Step 1
Clip the igintion wire and 1 end of the wire and run to each side of the coil. Congratulations you should have a relay that is open when the car is off and on when the car is on.

Step 2
Cut the headlight wire and run one end to the input pole. Run the other side of the wire to the normally open pole. Now when the relay has power it will close the normally open, and bam! your headlights now have the ground they were searching for.

Step 3
Wrap everything up nice and tight so you dont have a short anywhere, try it out and watch it for a few minutes looking for smoke LOL!

I will try to make a quick picture in paint later if you dont understand that.

hmm think i may have to give that a shot, any more descirption/details is very much welcome I am new to DSM's but not to wiring/electrical systems so Not 100% noob :)
