Resolved 2G Help! Electrical Wiring

Finally got down to tearing out the birdsnest left behind by the previous owner. They had SAFC installed. My question is: what are the silver wires in the green sheaths? I can't see anything about them in the pinout of the ecu plugs. Also the black wires coming out of the same green sheath?

I cant tell you what it is for, but I can tell you that it comes like that from the factory.

I have always just guessed that it was there to limit interference to those specific wires and never really cared for the real answer. I am kind of interested to see why it is there though.

those are just shielded wires. the silver braided parted is grounded.
i know one of them is for the knock sensor. the other 2 are for the O2 sensors

DustyBoner is right. The shielding protects wires from electrical interference on some of the more sensitive sensors.
