Hey Folx ..
first off all how are you guys doing , hopfully great :) ive been browsing and visiting this board frequently and looking for an answer to all my questions :) i hope you guys might offer a helping hand in order to help me see the light and not just a shadow :)

I recently acquired a 98GSX yes 2G with only 47K on it :) Automatic unfortunatly but hey she is amazing ..

i want to build this baby right and i know you guys can help .. im a very good listener and i tend to do what sounds reasonable and promising :)

so far this is what i have on mind

FMIC + Downpipe + Intake + Exhaust and some electronics not to mention a BOV ..

but what are the brands that i should look for ? and what about those SBR engines .. those look promising too .. seriously guys i dont know where to start please help i really need every bit of info you can help me out with :)

I would say go this intercooler kit...
ETS (95-99) 2G DSM Eclipse/Talon 10.5" Pro Race Intercooler Kit [ 2GDSM_PR ]
Since its short rout piping youll save about 3-4 feet of piping compared to the greddy


As for intake pipes if you wanna save some money go with the ebay Bomz kit...I love mine

If you buy the megan downpipe you might as well get the megan cat back also...the end of the megan downpipe is 3 inch, the hks carbon fiber where it connect to the downpipe is about 2.25...so you will have a 3 inch downpipe that converts to 2.25 then 3 again
 
Has anyone explained yet that when you do the piping, some of the FMIC kits require you to remove the foglights? I believe ETS sells one of theirs that doesn't require this.

Although i am a 2GB, I am a talon so my fogs are positioned similar if not the same as the 1995-1996 2ga models. So I got less space between fog and fog to fit the intercooler/piping etc. I love the way they look at night with the HID's up top. I wouldn't want to remove them, but I have to go FMIC eventually since I want to go with the FP green setup. Don't think a super side mount would be enough for that turbo, what do you think?
 
I know Dejon sells a super side mount and i believe that it will hold up to 400 hp. So if your planning on making less than that, i think it would work for your setup, possibly.

yeah, but Ive seen a few threads of people having some knock with it. Its just fog lights after all, I can live without them.

What I might do is later on just find some nice aftermarket ones to put on, nothing rice. Just clean, simple ones.

but i always wanted to get the hks .. i had a friend who had it and man it sure sounded soo amazing ..

should i go 3" all the way will that kill the pressure Damn now im lost ...

i checked every single link u guys offered and i likey what they pack from prices and goodies :)

Intake i might be going for the injen we used to have it on my friends Gs-t and he loved it so we might shove that into the equation :)

FMIC APexi with piping kit and hks bov ssqv or if there is anything else thats better .. advising please in this catagory ..

Hks Cf Ti exhaust but i dont know what DP .. other than apexi :/

anything else i should consider to the list ..

oooh one more thing FMIC who else makes a full kit with upper piping ?

P.s money is not an issue guys so if u have something that u know off but alil bit pricey .. please shooot me with it :)

I would recommend changing the water pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, PCV valve, Timing belt, balance shaft belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt tensioner pulley, timing belt idler pulley, balance shaft tensioner pulley, Alt/Water pump belt, AC belt and PS belt.

Sure you mileage wise 13k under the recommend maintance interval, but its a 10 year old car and age can be just as harsh as mileage.

Also check out PartsDinosaur, Phoenix, Arizona, wholesale engine parts and kits I had good experience dealing with them and I am using their Timing kit with no issues.
 
A tip about the blow off valve, i actually found out about this from brousing through the forums on here, when you get an intake u mite want to make sure it has the ricirculation port and a blow off valve that you can recirculate or the car will run rich if you just vent the the blow off valve into the atmosphere.:talon:

What happens when you don't recirculate the valve is that your MAF registers a certain amount of air so it sends fuel for that amount of air. When you vent that air is not getting into the motor and your MAF already sent the fuel for it. So then thats when you get the rich condition. Once you idle the car would be fine, but it has an effect like when you put in neutral and you just leave it out of gear to approach a light or something then when the RPM's start to come down they might come down too far due to the motor running rich.

It's not as bad as people say it is, but yeah, if you want to maitain great driveability and have no issues at all whatsoever with stalling, etc. Just recirculate it.
 
i will deffintly take every single word in consideration .. u guys are the greatest .. as soon as i start ripping out for modding i will let u guys know whats cooking asap .. i read alot about the atmosphere and the recirculation of the BOV .. so dont worry i got that in mind :) but as i mentioned earlier i think and i might be very sure that the turbo is out / dead / gone / bye bye .. the previous owner assured me of that so i need to upgrade to something .. any help with this though ..

do i need to change the Mani too since im at it ?? i have a certain budget sitting aside for this DSM .. so help me out guys what a good turbo manifold out there.. ??

What are your goals for the GSX? Is it a certain awhp or quarter mile time or something else? What is your current budget for the turbo and other support mods? Will you be installing the stuff yourself? If not, then installation labor will take a chunk out of your mod budget. o2 housing with dump tube is highly illegal in CA and the noise will attract the cops, so I would either suggest a recirculated o2 housing or a electric cutout in your exhaust pipe. Let us know what your goals are for the car and the budget you have to work with then we can give you suggestions for what to buy and why.

a buddy of mine made 500+ on a GT35R evo with a 38mm tial. minimal creep.
