Hey everyone, This will be my first post here in the dsm forums. So please be patient with me =). So on friday a 1996 Eclipse gsx, 341 whp will be dropped off at my house, im in the process of getting prepared to be able to drive it right away. The problem, most cars bottom out coming into my drive way. My friends stock impala bottoms out, and my friends stock 2007 gallant ralliart bottoms out coming into my drive way. The eclipse is also lowered so i know for a fact its going to bottom out. We've tried all different way to pull in and pull out but it doesnt seem to work, so i need a solution. My driveway has a so called "canal" at the beginning for water drainage on my street, so i CANNOT block that, so the only idea i have right now is to put a long piece of metal over it, so that the car can drive over it, and the metal wont block the water draining. I Attached a picture so you can see the driveway. If you have any ideas besides changing anything to my car, please give me your advice =)

To be honest, that doesn't seem bad at all. Take wiiiiiide angles to get into your driveway and take it slow. Or do what you mentioned and put a metal plate down.

The only solution I can see without hardware to help is driving it in from an angle on to the drive way. My car is pretty low, and can get through similar situations like that by driving from the side.

Make a "gulley" for the water to pass through using PVC, and put down blacktop. Or put some wood down and "step" it for an easier transition.

It doesnt look that bad but for some reason no matter what angle/slow as possible, most cars still bottom out, or atleast there muffler hits the ground. and i cant do anything to the canal like use pvc piping cause its town property, and i have my own police station here and will get f*cked if they see it haha.

take some steel sheet metal, spray it black and see if some bondo will hold it to the ground over the canal to make a bridge of some sort.

hmmm... yeah thats my problem right now, is how to hold the sheet metal in place so it doesnt slide

How about a thin layer of asphault on the edges of the metal. That way if you get into trouble for having it there it can be pulled up. :thumb:

Im afraid if someone sees steel sheet metal, there gonna steal it =p thats worth a decent amount of moneyy

Personally is say with something like that talk to the town, have them come out and work with you about what you can do. I don't know how New York is but I'm originally from Rhode island and they would just about hang you for altering that without permission. Now down here In Mississippi I don't think they'd care if I dug a mote and put up a draw bridge :D

What about gravel? Still filters the water but any build up garbage from the up street will have to be cleaned by you.

Or get a measure of the canal, then have wide wooden blocks cut so they have a fit, rough or true, so you can lay them out and put them away as needed.

im gonna try that! i didnt think of gravel, besides the fact it will move and shift, i guess ill just get a whole bag, and ill be set. i wont have to worry about people stealing my rocks! haha

a rock bridge wont work unless you have a way to form it into a shape otherwise when you drive over it pressure will just push the rocks out from underneath the car.

the sweepers around here suck, and dont pick up crap, they just push it around haha. gravels cheap, so not a big deal, they only come around once or twice a year.

It would also depend upon the rock used. If you used something smooth and the consistency of playground pea gravel, then yes you are correct, but something a bit larger and coarser, it should hold form enough.

I had the same problem with my RSX. My front bumper would crash into the driveway like it was a wall standing straight up. Go to home depot and cut out a long piece of plywood. I'd rather have your driveway then mine haha.

reshape the driveway, wide enough for yur car.. just pick it out with a jackhammer and reshape it

make the approach angle shallower

Get 1/2" - 3/4" Rubber mat. Should come in 8ft length. Cut 12" width strip and sit that baby down right in the contour of the road/driveway. It will give you the slight lift off the concrete that you need and wont slip like sheet metal. Look for rubber similar to what they lay down in weight rooms. I've used this method on 5+ driveways. And, its portable. Bonus point.

I have to back mine up on my driveway...it does not scrape then but it will if i go front first..try that.
