2G gearbox in 1G possible?

Hi

I found a 1995 GST for sale,but the body is shot. I asked the guy if i could just buy the 7 bolt that is in it.
Since my gearbox is gonna be shot soon. Can i use his gearbox to switch into my car together with his engine?

The transmission can be made to work. The engine will not without fabricating a front engine mount bracket. The 1g's have the front and rear mounts on the engine, the 2g's have them on the transmission. The 2g block doesn't have holes in it for the front engine mount to bolt to. The rear holes are there.
 
Sorry to revive this thread like this. The engine is a 2G 7 bolt. I have a NT 1G gearbox. Do they bolt right up? I know the flywheel size is different, but will this interfere?I will have to change the flywheel? Or can i use his clutch assembly to just leave it as it is
 
depends on the transmission. If it came out of a first gen 4g63 non turbo, it will bolt up, but I dont thing it will fit on a 4g37 trany. Also, looks as though your trying to use a turbo engine on a NA trany? bad idea, the trany wont hold up long.

to make things more clear, could you describe what your trying to do here? 1g with a 2g engine?
 
The engine will not work without some fabrication as i already stated. There are no holes in the front of the block for the engine mount bracket to bolt to.
 
So its basically not recommended to do so. Its really hard to find a turbo engine on this%#$%#@ island. I am desperate to make it turbo. Thanks for your time guys :)

You can use a 2g Transmission on your 1g but you will need a 4g63 from a 1g 6 bolt or 7 bolt which have the mounts on the engine. you will just have to remove the brackets from the 2g transmission.

Just this part confuses me a little bit. I have a 4g63 with the mounts. If i want to make it work i need to remove the mount on the 2G transmission?
 
If you have a 1g 4g63 than yes the 2g transmission will bolt to it. The axle splines are a different size and you will have to swap the 2g inner cups and hub to the 1g axle. And yes you would just unbolt the mount brackets from the front and rear. You will need the turbo fwd flywheel, clutch and starter plate also.
 
If you buy the transmission yes you can make it work, but the engine you will not be able to get to work unless you want to fabricate a front engine mount bracket.
 
I got a 1g 6 bolt 4g63 and i cant get the flywheel to fit in the trans.... its just a half inch or so bigger what should i do???
 
How much are you paying for a used transmission/engine? Im sure for a little bit more you could ship yours out to be rebuilt professionally.
