Hi

I have been fiddling around with my gearbox install on my 92GS 4g63
It is heavy and I gave up after fighting for 3 hours.

I bought this turbo gearbox 90 tsi, because the guy told me it will fit.
I have plans to go turbo this year. But I need my good on gas daily back for a while.
I have checked this site for any info related. People say to change the flywheel, starter plate, and clutch. But the input shaft fits good on my NT clutch, even though you really need to put it dead center on the input shaft.
My dad tried to help. But still no luck. Am I not seeing something here?

Use a 12"x12" chunck of wood (like 1" MDF" ) and a floor jack under the transmission, makes it worlds easier. As for difficulty getting it up, alleviate that problem by using a clutch alignment tool and confirming your clutch disk is centered. As well, don't forget the alignment dowels, have them installed into the engine block to make life easier. It really is an easy install, just take the weight off the transmission so it is easier to work with, you should also have your engine block lowered/tilted down a bit as well as supported with another jack or jack stand.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have only 1 jack right now under the gearbox. But I cant line it up correctly. Because the gearbox keeps leaning to one side. Its really unbalanced. I dont want to force my back by leaning on the fender and lifting it with my hands.

So it's basically just a bolt on. Even though its a turbo gearbox?

The 90 trans does fit but uses a taller shifter. Just remember that if it seems hard to shift. I would jack it up about 80 percent of the way and lift it / center it by hand for the rest. These are not that heavy and it should not take much to get it into place.

The input shaft will fit the NT clutch, no problem, as its spline count never changed. The issue is that the NT flywheel is a smaller diameter than a FWD turbo flywheel and will cause starting issues if used with a turbo transmission. As well, the NT clutch is 10mm small in diameter than the turbo flywheel.

Use the right parts. Have fewer headaches.

No

I just ordered the gearbox from america.
i wanted to swap a turbo engine. So I thought I might as well buy the turbo gearbox for when i want to upgrade.

I do not have a turbo starter plate nor a flywheel or clutch.
Can I use the NT clutch on a turbo flywheel? Or will the dowels from the turbo flywheel not line up with the NT pressure plate.

I cant just drill the hole? The starter will still have problems with the flywheel?

There is record of the NT clutch being used in a turbo applications: NT flywheel and clutch with AWD tranny?. I certainly wouldn't recommend it, but hey, it is your car.

The FWD turbo flywheel, again, is a larger diameter than the others. This means that the starter opening on the FWD turbo transmission is spaced further away from the crankshaft centerline than it would be on a FWD non-turbo or AWD transmission. Drilling out the starter plate is an option so you don't have to buy a new plate, but what is another $20 (+shipping) for the correct part, brand new? Starter Plate-DSM : JNZ Tuning

As for the non-turbo pressure plate with turbo flywheel -- this will never work. See the last picture in this post: what are ALL the differences from the 4g63 to 4g63t. So, at the very least, you will need a turbo pressure plate and at that point, why not get a turbo clutch?

I'll reiterate.
Use the right parts. Have fewer headaches.
