I have been trying to find a rattle in the front end of my spyder for a while. I jacked the car up and checked play on the wheels - they are fine no movement. I did find one of the curved lower control arms lose and replaced that. I also replace both sway bar end links. Still have the rattle. I only hear the rattle when I am going slow and hit any kind of bump. It disappears at approximately 20 mph.

I had the car up on blocks and crawled underneath and grabbed and shook everything I could find. The only thing that I found that had any play was the axle. They are tight at the wheel next to the spindle, but have some up-down play at the transmission. Is this normal or do they need to be replaced?

it sounds like the cv joints are going bad, check the boot around the joint for holes where dirt can get in. usally that is the reason cv joints go bad
If it was this, try doing a sharp left or right, then it would be extra loud. If that's not the case, then you could eliminate this.

Brake pads?
If it was this, use your finger to feel the rotor and see if there is any highly uneven marks.

Sounds like a strut/shock replacement to me. Only on bumps, right?

Sometimes the actual pad will just bounce around a tad making an annoying rattle. May be due to a missing or loose clip. Just a thought.

Nothing wrong with that thought, man. :thumb: It's more squeeky to me when that happens.

i got the same problem turned out to be cv boots when i would turn sharply u could hear the rattle but when i hit a bump it never happend do you have aftermarket springs

Try checking your upper control arm bolts. I had the same problem with my CV joints (and still do) and it caused the bolt in the upper control arm to back itself out. Made bumpy noises and sounded like my wheel was going to fall off when I hit any sort of bump, and was really bad on my stone driveway going downhill. The CV joints should make a click click click... noise when turning... Not to be confused with bad wheel bearings, which will make a similar vibrating in your wheel.

Upper control arms? Do you mean the two main bolts?

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I have not checked the brake pads for being lose - that will be next. I have new Tokiko HP struts and have shaken everything I could think of - still got the noise.

I do NOT hear the noise when I turn and the outside universal joint by the wheel is solid.
I CAN woble the CV next to the tranny, I have also noticed that - for instance - if I let the car roll backwards and the let the clutch out going forward that there is a slight clunk, sort of the same sound as the rattle. Think this could be related ?
