Charlottetown,
I'm stuck trying to put a 2G 4g63 in my 1G and was wondering if anyone has done this before, theres a ton of information around about swapping in the reverse order thats helped me a lot but I still have a couple questions

I have my (run dry after oil filter cooler backed off) 1G 4g63t and subframe sitting on the floor next to the 2G 4g63t I'm trying to transplant into my 1G awd talon

to solve the CAS issue I could either

a) swap my 1G head onto 2G block
b) swap my 1G cams and CAS to 2G head
c) somehow use 1G CAS with 2G cams and 2G head ...not sure what this would entail

The 2G was an automatic and my 1G is a standard, both were turbo. I've read there could be slight differences in lift/duration on a given engine depending on what transmission and what year etc. but not enough to bother worrying about?

can anyone shed some light on best/easiest route to take?

I think you should definatly put the 1g cams in the head. I think 1g cams are better anyway. Did you bolt on the flywheel to the crankshaft yet?

nope basically just got the subframe dropped and dropped the engine and transmission out from underneath so I could get the two side by side and swap what i need to

my 1G is a 94, yet to unbolt the trans but like 92+ should be 7 bolt the same as this 2G right?

the 2G was FWD and auto so I'm going to use my 1G standard trans and transfer case, the 2G I bought for the engine was smashed and also had a few things stripped off it like the exhaust manifold, turbo, tb etc.

so hoping to mate my 1G intake/tb/exhaust manifold/turbo/trans to the 2G block and be driving again.. maybe use my 1G head or cams due to the CAS issue

seems to be a few more little gotchyas then I expected LOL

Its me again!
The 2g head has smaller ports than the 1g head so the 1g intake manifold on the 2g head may not be a good idea unless you port the 2g intake on the head. late 92 plus are 7 bolts like the 2g.

hey thanks for all your responses they're really appreciated, I never want to let my talon die its like a child to me LOL

I'm just stuck doing this after biz hours in my dads garage so really pinched for time because im tying up one of his hoists so I just had tonight and tomorrow I have to be able to at least roll my car out of there haha

so what you're saying is I might run into problems with the 1G intake on the 2G head? I dont have much to work with in regards to doing any porting maybe a grinding stone and a drill, are we talking a lot of material here or something I could grind away fairly quickly?

I would just use the 2G intake except the throttle body is gone off the 2G engine (not sure about 1G tb on 2G intake??)

well it wouldnt make sense to throw a 1g intake manifold with bigger ports on a head with smaller ports. The 1g TB will work on the 2g intake manifold. I think you should do that. Idk the difference in the size of the ports I just know the 2g ports are smaller.

thanks for pointing that out, LOL definitely makes a lot of sense when you put it like that

I know ideally bigger is usually better but at this point I'll be happy to have an engine that runs and a car that drives and hopefully rebuild my old engine once my car is mobile again

1G tb, 2g intake, 2g head and 1g cams may be what I need to do, I'd just use my 1G head/intake/cams but since engine dumped its oil, probably got pretty hot, i wasnt driving it at the time so I cant even guess

bigger ports are better. They allow more air to the motor of course. You would have to pull the head and idk if you want to do that. Because then you would have to deck the head and change the headgasket to put it back on.

I just had a look at side by side comparison pic of 1g/2g intakes beside each other huge difference indeed
