Can you put a 2G ECU in a 1G and have it operate okay? I just bought a 2g E-prom ECU for damn cheap, and I was wanting to get DSMlink for my 1g LOL. I thought I'd save money by buying a used 2g link because nobody has 1g dsmlink for sale used. Let me know if it's possible LOL, Idk even know if the plugs match. sorry for the dumb question.

2g = obd2

1g = obd 1

it will not work for that and other reasons...

That's putting it mildly :) Don't even think about it unless you're an EE with way too much time on your hands! :)

I was just trying to keep it simple. ;)

Anyway, the only time I would ever even consider it as an option was before they made the 1g dsm link. And even then, it wasnt worth my time or sanity.

I am actually lookin into the same thing. I talked to thomas at dsmlink yesterday and he suggested the switch. he said it was harder and more complicated but the benefits of the 2g ecu are better plus he says he likes that ecu better. faster dataloggin rates etc... he said I believe hal landry wrote a how to somewhere which is what I am lookin for now!

Nice! But don't you lose a couple things by going to the 2g link instead of 1g, i.e. maf selection? I'm running a maf-t right now, and as long as it won't cause any problems with the tuning that'd be awesome! Thanks guys, and let's see what Hal has to say...

Just get a pin schematic of your can and one for the 2g ecu that you have. The plugs should be the same, but you are gonna have to do some pin switching, and extra wire for the map sensor, and some extras for the maf sensor. You will also have to rewire the ignition wires , kind of like what you would do if you were doing a 6 bolt swap in a 2g, but you could change them up at the ecu. I think it would be a really good upgrade for any 1g, maybe i will work on an adaptor for doind the swap, and installing a map sensor on the 1g car. Good luck if you decide to dive into it man.

I'm really starting to consider doing this. The ECU pinouts/wiring doesn't worry me, it's upgrading to the 2g knock sensor, using a 2g map sensor, and hooking it up to my Maf-t is what's worrying me. Does anyone else know how to do this?

Any luck finding about the adapter cables? I tried searching but I couldn't find anything at all. Do the 2g n/t ecu plugs/harness match the 2g turbo ecu plug/harness? I'm going to go to the junkyard and rip out some plugs/harness and an ecu case so I can use it in my 1g. I'm really close to trying this swap, I just don't want to f it up.

I've seen it done. One of the guys in our NJDSM club did that to a 92 GSX so he could run DSM Link before they released it for 1G's. Took a lot of rewiring to get it done, though.

I have a similar question and didn't want to make a new topic. Will a 93 EPROM (7 bolt, mind you) work in my 91 without ANY modifications? (Both are 5 speed tranny.) I was wondering because 93's are still OBD 1....right?

I already started bidding on one on ebay without thinking about the whole 7 bolt thing...doh!

Yes, it will work fine. The 7 bolt engine doesnt have anything to do with the electronics. You can use an ecu from 91-94 in your car. You can even use the 90 model ecu also, just have to switch 2 wires at the ecu.

Oh I see. I searched and was finding all this stuff about changing pins on the ECU and I was confused. Thanks for clearing that up! And thank you to the moderator who so kindly put my reputation in the red just because I'm not so good at searching! Oh well, I'm here to learn anyway, not to give advice to others. :D
