Check out the "out" side of the AGP, it is also a 90 deg bend, and I pose the same question, would the best in our industry, and the fastest AWD DSM period, ever, run it if it was not the best?
 
I think that Shep and others run that intercooler for a reason everybody. I like it a lot and I am looking into getting one myself. :dsm: :thumb:

Its a PLENUM, like an intake manifold, it doesnt matter how it turns or where it points, its a PLENUM , get that straight, do some research on it and find out why it doesnt matter

Just because some random company designes a smother bend and brags about how it flows better, doesnt mean they know their shit, means that that is all they have to go off on hoping for some poor bastard to take it as fact and spend their money on it

You are dead right. A nice elbow before would be nice. But, the flow loss coefficient even on a good endtank inlet plenum ain't good. Trying to stream line an inlet tank to an Intercooler is just for looks, the tank would need to contract from the pipe size to the I.C. at an 8* taper to make a difference. Try fitting an endtank 3 ft long on your car. People, remember that because of the high density, the air inside the i.c. pipes is flowing at a fairly slow velocity. Pipe and endtank losses in psi are going to be minimal even at high rpm, do the math.

Yes. If the difference in performance isn't substantial, or could be made up elsewhere, and someone is cutting them a break on the price, sponsoring them, and/or some other special deal they DEFINITELY would. It's the nature of motorsports.

So you are saying different plenums don't change power? Or power curve characteristics?

Please, get real. Try actually "reading" those engineering books instead of just the www.howstuffworks.com version.

There is a VERY good reason for those HARD 90^ bends as well. I'll respond later with the actual technical reasoning if I feel like it.

Albert is a friend of mine and all, and his 2g kit is very nice, albeit overpriced a bit. The kit worked well as evident by a few fast 2g's running it. The end tanks are nice, and they are nicely done, but based on the limited reading I've done they scream pressure drop.

Just so you guys know, there are few nice 2g kits out there, this is one of them, and I'm not bashing it at all, just stating my opinions.

I was very interested in this kit and was talking with him alot, but the total cost would have been like close to 1400 american and that was just way to much for me.

Then I found Jr's kit and it does everything I need it to do, for alot less :thumb:
 
This guys end tanks look an awful lot like the ones sold by Apexi. If people are interested in doing their own intercooler assembly just buy em from an Apexi distributor. They are a nice looking design though.
 
I may have missed this - Does anyone know if fog lights have to be removed for JR's kit? I can't really tell in any of the pictures.

thats exactly how i want the fmic to fill up my bumper. i'm going to cut out the black part so that more air hits the intercooler. i was also wondering if the fog lights have to go with the fmic kit sold by JR?

Are the mounting brackets on the end tanks used? Or do custom brackets need to be welded in another spot?

Someone runing a 16g doesnt need a 25x12x3.5 intercooler for anything else other then looks, which ALOT of dsm guys LOVE, they love huge big FMIC cause it means they are fast, nevermind that 1/2 of them are still on a t25...tons of those around here

Nevermind that it will block off ALL the air to your radiator, oh, buy the bar and plate and plate huge front mount and say goodbuy to ANY air touching the radiator

but hey your turbo is runing at a nice, cool temp, nevermind that your engine is at 250* boiling over, pulling timing and overheating

These are all issues to consider, i got the 7" tall cause i wanted air to flow over the top to my radiator, which it does just as planed, in this 105* weather, i cant afford not to have that

I got it cause it was a great deal , it fit great, it works, and my 16g seems to like it

Oh, about your 12's comment, i would be happy to run 12s....you gotta remember, most dsm'ers dont run 11s like some people think

The Greddy kit is not a bad intercooler, it is just not the best design. It is also tube an fin, which makes it inferior to bar and plate intercoolers.

When it comes to intercoolers, yes, bigger is better. I can GARUNTEE I can run more boost on my small 16g than you on pump gas with no knock and get amazing timing advance. Why? Simply because I have a bigger intercooler. It opens up a tunning window for my that makes life easy.

I went 12.0@120mph on a beat small 16g. Do you honestly think I dont know what I am talking about? You can deal with coolign issues other ways. With my 10.5 inch tall intercooler, I have had zero cooling issues thus far.

I have been building and tunning turbo and supercharged cars for a good while now, and I am telling you from experience, that when it comes to intercoolers, bigger is better.

Your intercooler will work good for now, but when you try to turn the boost up, of upgrade your set up, I think i will be the weak point of your set up.

He makes the same intercooler in a 10" tall version, but i mainly want it for flow, not cooling, do you think a 25x7x3 wont flow enough for say 350whp???

I dont want to upgrade it for cooling, just flow, cause i have plenty of cooling with water

I see your DSM link has made you numb to tunning the car yourself, as it had dont to many others. I use something called a DATALOGGER, maybe you have heard of it? With the values aquired from their, I can tune my injector duty, O2, the whole shibang to get the most timming without knock possible. That is the name of the game.

Timming=Power

Boost=Power

Oh, and if you have this "crazy knock" you speak of, you would not get any good timing because the computer will pull it as much as possible. So, in essence, you dont know what the hell your talking about. Since you tune your car the have no knock, would it be cool it you had 10 deg. advance at WOT, and no knock? That would be sweet eh?

I'll keep my 25 deg. peak advance and no knock thanks.

Well the good thing is that you are comparing 2 different sizes but the exact same design. I think you will find that the larger intercooler will do better for a turbo that can charge it but for your current setup I doubt it would make a difference. The only thing I really dont like about the 7" or 10" for that matter is the fact that both the inlet and outlet are on the bottom, promoting flow through the lower part of the core not throughout the entire core.
Higher preasure is really the only thing that will overcome that issue tho.
