2g 02 housing with external wastegate expensive

Just curious after all these years why do you think that the 02 housings with external wastegate are still so expensive these days?

mostly because the demand is starting to out weigh supply. Every year more and more businesses are dropping support for this platform. Now you have to factor in tariffs and increasing supply costs on top of wanning support.

i dont know about the tariffs part.. the prices on the ones ive seen have been like 300+ for years and are all made here in the US..

put it this way. I just moved from the UK to the USA.

1 SS bend in the UK cost me $25 that same bend in the US is costing $60! so thats part of the problem! materials are EXPENSIVE!!! welding gas is 3x more here. so it all add's up and then people being skilled anough to do a good job.

I have an old recirc housing and i think back then was like $280 or less. and many were priced close to that and im talking some 10+ years ago though so from that to now prices its not as bad but yeah I am used to UK prices being cheaper vs the US and I thought the UK was expensive . they NOTHING compared to US prices im being quoted or seeing haha

When I first got into DSMs pricing was nowhere near as high as they are now. its crazy that a O2 housing and wastegate runs almost $1000 now. knowing prices are that drastically different between the UK and US now has me wondering, why, in fact, is pricing so high except for supply and demand.

Yes, I will be running FIBA from the US now. I'm due to start back up sometime towards the end of this month if I can as I am attending the shootout for the first time ever with a display so it will all be tight, but I plan to do more DSM/EVO stuff and produce even more items for us in all forms.

The wastegates themselves now cost a lot more as times go on, prices rise to match others on the market, it is one thing i find common across it all. One can be the best and lower priced and then won't sell but once they get to a similar price they sell more! So it's also down to people and their weird thoughts on pricing vs quality! people still assume higher price is quality, thus pay for that. so the same for exhausts and such. It all comes to what others charge. I myself don't do this as one, I don't have a lot to base from since a lot of my items are unique and reproductions of OEM are also different, but I do try to be cost-effective still.

As for the UK-US pricing, I'm still trying to work out why it's so much more. The US makes a lot of its own materials, so it should be decent on price but then the production know this so they up the base price and then the consumer gets the excess added on, so the producer of materials gains more profit aka GREED. It happens, and the consumer guys try to make it work so when we get someone saying that's an expensive exhaust for instance, it's because the material itself is expensive to begin with! No way around that in the US. The UK used UK, European also China materials so it leveled the prices because it had to and competition is good! having NONE is bad for pricing structure and creates issues vs fixing them! the US does not offer this competition and more so NOW with the importing tariffs being higher. US materials and services just tend to be more expensive as a whole! its is actually now FAR more expensive to live in the US than the UK! it (USED) to be the other way around but not anymore.

I could build an entire exhaust system in say 2.5" SS 304L tube and bends for about £200 so about $260. just material mind, not inc labor
that same system here is about $$550-650 in materials alone! So what once was, can be waved good bye as it will never be that low again.

You articulated that very well. I will look out for you at the Shootout. The track is less than an hour from my home. I’ll be there at least Friday if not all weekend. I believe the mentality of corporate greed grew exponentially after the 2007-2008 recession. More and more companies started charging more because they could and used the excuse of stockpiling funds in case there was another economic downturn turn.

I grew up taught “you get what you pay for.” Although it still rings true I do believe their is more diverse completion as a whole in most markets which allows you to get better performance to price ratio than previously understood. However you must still be skeptical due to the amount of private label rebranding of cheap inferior products coming from SE Asia being marketed as the best.

Another thought on the increasing price vs the UK; now I have never visited the UK ( it’s on my bucket list) there is a belief in the Us that if it was made here it’s better than any other product. A lot of companies not exclusive to the automotive will slap the “Made in the USA” sticker on a product and throw an additional 20 or 30% markup and people will blindly pay to “keep jobs here”. But that more of a hunch and my skepticism.

I know this is kinda off my subject but still within the same .. as the prices are high for things what do you all use say for manifolds and external wastegates? What would you consider good quality at a decent price?

personally i have had really good experience with the Summit Racing wastegate. Usually you can get it for around $100, I've used it on majority of my Subaru builds. Its also the one that is going on my DSM. For Manifolds I still stick with the Forced Performance. Can't beat that value and I really cant see spending $1000+ for a tubular manifold.

personally i have had really good experience with the Summit Racing wastegate. Usually you can get it for around $100, I've used it on majority of my Subaru builds. Its also the one that is going on my DSM. For Manifolds I still stick with the Forced Performance. Can't beat that value and I really cant see spending $1000+ for a tubular manifold.

Summit Racing's wastegates are direct copies of Tials. And I'm not talking the units from 20 years ago that no one cares about anymore intellectually. They literally bought the brand new model, copied it, scribed Summit on it, and were hocking them for 89shipped in less than a year of Tial releasing it for 430. I called them out about it and they said they own the tooling, . I emailed Tial to see what was up and they flat out said Summit decided to buy one of their units, copy it, and claim it as their own. Why Tial hasn't sued the f out of them is beyond me.

Rev9 is straight up the worst of the worst when it comes to ebay copied parts, but as for a cast T3 manifold that is the way to go. I would avoid giving them your money but it's probably unavoidable on such a part.

Yeah I know they are not good at all but figured being cast couldn't be to bad .. I'm gonna port my stock manifold I think with a flange between the mounting bolts at the collector see how that goes before I buy anything.. I wish fp made one with flanges..

That is just like CX Racing. I have heard good things about them, I personally never had tried one. I'm pretty sure they are mostly like the same manifold.
