I tried searching and all i got were articles on cam gears and timing. So anyways...

I was looking into buying cams for my car...I've heard about how it gives people a lot of power and everyone for the most part is satisfied with their hks cams.

So my question is should i go with hks 272/272s? Or 264/272s?

I know i don't have the most impressive list of mods by any means but i do plan on upgrading further.

Just like some people will say you could be spending the money else where, but if you are getting them I would go with a 272/272 combo and adjustable cam gears so you can fine tune your power band. The 264/272 combo is for the person who wants a smooth idle and who needs that. The 272's sound great in my opinion.

The difference, from even the stock cams aren't very noticeable driving wise. You will be able to tell easily from a turbo bigger than a 16G and a raised rev limitor. Everyone I know who went with 264/272 combo either regreted not going more aggressive or they have already gone more aggressive.

I agree, you'll love the full 272 combo. The 264/272 combo is for those that plan on staying with a smaller turbo. The 264 will provide a tad quicker spool, and then fall off a bit up top, just like the turbo will. If you have a 18g, 20g, 50 trim, etc, or larger, the full 272's are right for your setup.

thanks for all of the fast replies. I think that in the future i will be going with a larger turbo setup. Regaurding the web cams and etc. I've heard of them i was just asking about hks because i hear about those a lot more...but im open to any ideas...whats comparable to the 272s combo?

FP2 or Comp 101200's
Some debate that since they both come from Comp Cams shop that they are the same.
I don't care they both work great and are quality.
I have Comp 101200's I'm about to put in.

I have a 50 trim and will be going with straight 272s.

Oh yea check out the DKS cams, they are HKS 272/272 regrinds, both intake AND exhaust cam, for the price of 1 HKS intake or exhaust 272 cam. And reading all the reviews, they are just like the real deal. From a reputable company also, ffwd connection. Check them out or search for DKS here. THat's probably what I'm going with.

Wow thats good info on the dks. I think that I will be ordering a pair of the dks 272s. $350 a pair doesn't sound bad at all.

I just saw the post on the crowers too. hmmm...so many options, I thought i was going to be spending about 500-600 for a set...didn't know they did quality re-grinds and such for half price.

i can't help but ask...what does it mean on the fp2 when it says "but cannot install upgraded valve springs."

It clearly states "Nice choice if you need a big camshaft, but cannot install upgraded valve springs."

All this means is its a great set of cams but you can't afford to upgrade the valve springs and retainers right now.

Another point of view,or another way of stating the same thing.

It's saying it'd be better to have FP2X's if you had the money for springs and retainers, but since you don't then the FP2's are still a great set of cams.

Yep, I just reread it and feel like an idiot. Thats cool because most cams reccomend upgraded springs. So these cheaper regrinded cams are just as good as the $300 a piece ones.

haha well at least were on the same page...

Now what exactly is grinding? Is it adding material and grinding it back to new or do they just grind over the old wear...if so wouldn't that make them lower...not giving the performance...sorry for such a newb Q but im curious.

Can't give real life testament to "feel", I would assume it would be the difference in feel from a samll 16g and a big 16g.

Basically a small 16g with cams might feel like a big 16g without cams. And a big 16g with cams might feel like an evo 3 16g without cams.

Regrinds=taking stock cam grinding material off to shape the lobes to their desire, then shimming the lifters to the same thickness of what was taken off the cam.
