I tried searching and all i got were articles on cam gears and timing. So anyways...

I was looking into buying cams for my car...I've heard about how it gives people a lot of power and everyone for the most part is satisfied with their hks cams.

So my question is should i go with hks 272/272s? Or 264/272s?

I know i don't have the most impressive list of mods by any means but i do plan on upgrading further.

You'd better think about more than valve springs if you want to rev to 8500-900. While you can get the valvetrain to make power at that point, you'll need to go through your entire setup to make sure you don't have a choke point that will kill power at those RPM's. Also, there's no way a stock transmission is going to want to shift at those revs.

Just something to think about,

Andy

Umm...like what? I have a strong engine, a big turbo, and ALL supporting mods. What else do I need?

Oh ok, well your flat wrong about that. I have seen stock tranny's go to 8500 before. John @ TRE will even account for that, just call him like I did. But that doesn't matter since I have a TRE tranny anyways.

Thanks for the recommendation.:notgood:

You don't need to be a dick. He's only trying to help you.

And your TRE transmission isn't in your profile.:shhh:

Where is the help?? I asked for a recommendation on valve springs? Maybe I missed it.

Your right. Maybe it's because every time somebody posts, you get responses like this. So I never feel the need to keep my account updated.

Bottom line, I didn't ask what I needed to run upgraded springs. I wanted somebody more experienced than me to give me some advice on a good set to get. You can run upgraded springs on a completely stock engine, and they will help with valve control, even if you don't rev to 8500-9k.

What about
hks 280 intake and exhaust?
crower 280 or 288 intake and exhaust?

I would probably use those in a 2.3/2.4 engine. Or maybe a full race engine, but not a daily drive.

The theme with the cams seems to be the bigger the cam, the more topend power you will make, but more idle issues and low RPM power loss.

In a 2.3/2.4L engine, however, you can run a big set of cams (FP3's or such) and it will still be a pleasant daily drive.

Ok i eas talkin with the 5.0's and i noticed when they got cams the tone in exhaust would sound so much better, but who needs idle anyway its ethier broke in driveway or boosting.

LoL .... Makes sense...

And Id think that you wouldnt want to have really big cams on the stroked motor because they have less high revving ability anyways so you wouldnt want to go too big there either and basically stage the cams for the desired more fit powerband....

Wow...couldn't have said it better myself. :beatentodeath:

what kind of low end power loss are you generally going to feel going from stock-264/272 and stock-272/272, I couldn't really care about a struggling idle, and not that I'm shopping around for cams yet, but I'd like to know, I like low end power, I don't like waiting for boost.

To me...it's not even worth mentioning. Its slightly noticeable.
