I have about 2-3 hundred bucks and i would like to upgrade my big16g. I am not looking to spend $800 on a new turbo so i was wondering what i could do to squeze some hp out of it and who i could send it to, to get it done. Thanx:)a

I guess your best bet with that amount of money (and if you're dead-set on a turbo upgrade as opposed to other supporting mods) would be to port it (if it hasn't been done yet). You could save money by buying bits and doing it yourself, or you could spend more and get it done professionally by somewhere like Forced Performance.

Well i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to upgrade it because i was looking at SBRs big16g and it had impressive numbers for a price not too much above the price a regular big16g.

Everyone including Slow Boy will boast big things to sell their products. I'm not calling Slow Boy Racing a fraud, I'm just saying to look at how much CFM your turbo flows. Then call the guys at Slow Boy and ask them how much CFM theirs will flow. In my opinion, put that money into a bigger turbo, or some other mod. You can only get so much out of the 16G housing before you max it out. And most of the gains you'd see would be with race gas and the boost cranked WAY up.

If your gunna port your turbo make sure you do plenty of porting around the wastegate passage. When I baught my 16G from Slow Boy they only got rid of the step and didn't port around the wastegate at all. I could only maintain boost till 5100 RPM then the boost would spike way past 20 psi and stay there. I called them and complained about their porting and they said, "Most of our customers use that as a 2 stage boost controller." I thought he was joking but he was serious. It makes me wonder how good their head work is since their turbo porting was so poor. Every other experience I've had from SBR has been good though. So take my story for what it's worth.

Porting a Big 16G is a bit overrated. The turbo already has a 7cm2 exhaust housing, so it's not like you're taking off a ton of material that is going to make a huge difference.

I'd suggest using your money to buy a set of Brian Crower cams- they're very affordable. We recently installed a set of BC101's (Stage 2, according to www.BrianCrower.com) on my buddy's 2G with a TD05H 20G and it made more of a difference in top end pull than any turbo mod could ever make, but it came at the expense of some off-boost torque. It's a completely different car now.
