Fire away. Which one is better & why? A good used 20g for around $600 or a New EvoIII 16g. Or is a 50trim just that much better?

Which would be better for this combo on a daily street driven car
Smittys old ported head from Team NABR
Comp Cams 101200
PTE 680cc
GM MAFT
Supra SMIC w/ progressive Methonol Injection
3" exhaust
Ported 2g mani

not to be a jackass, but "better" is a relative term, better in relation to what? Better for what? What are your goals? This question has been answered a thousand times, there is no one size fits all, better than every other turbo. For a daily driven street car, the 16g would get my vote (espec considering you have a supra sidemount, plus its less laggy, and 11's capable) for a track car, the 20g. Search, Search, Search! Happy boosting! :talon:

Goal: Low 12s high 11s on pump gas.
I have a pregressive methonol injection system. So the Supra & the Alky does a good FN job. Charged intake temps are in the low 70s on a 97' day in Alabama with the car set on 21lbs with a 14b. Alky nuff said.

Thanks for your opinion.

16g:1

ALCOHOL INJECTION, Wow you must be the first to do that!
So you have alcohol at ambient or above air temperature and an intercooler cooling air to ambient or above air temperature. You do know the MAF locks the air temp at around 70-80...right??
Did you even bother to search, because theres about 50 of these topics...this week.

I purchased a temp probe, similar to an EGT probe & taped it into my UICP just at the TB elbow & read it from a digital gauge. But you are right the GM MAFT does lock the temps at 82'.

Why don't you check out the specs on a 48 or 50trim T3/T4. Maybe a GT series if you like quick spool. This way the potential is there if you want to harness it.

Very good point

i like the 20g. its a little more laggy for daily driving so you dont waste so much gas and you can run less boost then 16g and reacts better to race gas.....

20g-1
16g-1

btw i have had both TRUST ME 20g all the way

:dsm:

a properly setup/good driver with a 16g powerd car can go 12's and 11's... either way it goes you will get what your looking for out of either turbo. I would probably choose the 20g because of the greater potential on the top end and you might end up wanting more out of the car once you have hit your goal.

either way it goes, good luck

my vote=20g it will give you everything you want, and then some :thumb:

another thing to take in consideration is dat there is a tdo5 20g and a td06 20g.

Thanks these we're the responces I was looking for.

50 trim, it is "that much better" as you say.

I have had small 16g, evo 16g, full tdo6h 20g, 60 trim, and 50 trim. 50 trim is vastly superior to all, with the spool caracteristics or better that a 20g.

and it is a champ on pump gas.

you said that you have a 3" exhaust, so if you go with the 20g be sure everything is ported good as I hear they have creep issues.
