I don't know squat about cameras, sizes, dpis.. but it looks like your asking for pics that only a minority of people with super duper cameras are going to be able to produce.. I mean I know why..... tiny pics blown up look like crap. I will see if I can get better pics with my dad's camera, it is like a 10meg camera, if not I know some local car guys with top notch stuff.

You don't necessarily need a 10 megapixel camera to take a photo that meets the specs I have posted. Just about any cheap 5 megapixel camera can meet these requirements - hell my Canon SD1000 (7.1 megapixel) is more than enough. It's not about having an expensive camera, you just have to do a little work figuring out how to adjust your camera's settings to the highest range - or just the necessary range. And if you don't have a camera that can meet the requirements and you think your car is worthy of the calendar, everyone still has 3 weeks to buy, borrow, or steal (kidding of course) a camera that does. My guess is most people here that have a camera that's 5 years old or newer can meet these specs if they just researched how to use their camera.

I sent over a picture of my Spyder, but at only 180dpi. It was 2592x1944 however. If you can use it, great. If not, I understand. Canon Powershot G5

my profesional picture from the shootout was is only 199DPI and 2006 width, but i scanned it on a 10dollar scanner, going to see if me dads scanner at work can do better, then hopefully can send in some shots.

I'll definitely be getting some shots by my buddy who takes phenomenal pics. Coming soon...

Ok guys I read through this thread and I am curious; Chris I have tried to send you some zipped pics before, but I don't know if you got them.

The pic I want to enter is 2848 x 2144, 480dpi, and 1.5MB. It is a jpeg, so do I need to zip the file? Like I said I had tried to send it before, but i'm not sure if it works. Would it be ok just to send it as an attachment?

Couple questions,

1. Do you only want a DSM in the pic? I can get a hi-res of the photo in my avatar, is the evo in the background acceptable or should it just be my car alone?

2. The photographer wants to be should he will be credited for the photo. How will you be acknowledging the photographers of the pics?

The woman just got her new d50 and a couple lenses so once she gets back from yellowstone I should have some good pics for you, hopefully there not to big

1. Other cars in the photo are fine, so long as the DSM is the most prominent car in the photo.

2. Good question. I'm asking everyone who needs to give photographer credit to keep it in the lower right corner of the photo and use text, no logos or graphics. If the photo is raw and needs credit text added to it, I can do it on my end. We'd prefer to not have to do this though and may choose photos that don't require copyrights for style reasons in some cases.

You shouldn't have to zip it since it's less than 2 megs. Just curious though, that seems like a really small file size for such a high resolution photo. Is that the raw file or was it modified to increase the resolution settings?

Read? What?

Thiz aint not a skool yerd. I iz here to talk boot carz and shiz. Dis aint englash class.

I checked it again and it is a 1.5mb. It has not been modified. I'll go ahead and send it.

is this an option:

upload the high res picture to my server. Send a low res in the email with a link to download the high res version if you like it, etc.

Or are you not even going to bother with this type of submission. This would get around filling your email full of large jpeg's.

does the car have to be in motion or can it just be like a still parking lot pic?

Sounds like more work for both parties. Why not just send high res image in the first place? I'm sure Chris has enough e-mail space for everything - or he downloads the picture and deletes the e-mail.

I do question the DPI requirement as most software packages will optimize for screen resolution and DPI changes can be made at the print/output stage of things...

What say ye, Chris?

I'm shooting with a T1i and good ol WinBlows shows 72x72 at HUGE resolution. ;)
