Here is my question!
Can i use a 95" GST ECM in my 97" GST??

My current ECM is not letting the 2 and 3 coils spark.
We have been working on this stupid problem for 2 months!
[me and another dsm owner]
We checked ALL the wires, connected direct wires, changed every fuse imaginable, replaced power converter, replaced coils, replaced cables, replaced spark plugs[about 20] and even tried a 95 ecm which changed the coils from firing from 1 and 4......
to firing 2 and 3!!!
Im completely STUMPED!
Help i just want to drive my 2g

You state everything is getting power, but have you check to see if they are working? Get a schematic. Nothing more frustrating, than swapping parts without any results and expensive.

yeah, everything works. The Multimeter was my best friend. All oem parts.

2G Turbo ECU Pinouts

says 13 is a power supply and 26 is blank?

And that diagram is incorrect.

Pins 12 and 25 are the switched B+ from the MPI relay.
Pins 13 and 26 are grounds.
Pin 80 is the unswitched B+ for power to backup the processor RAM.

Both coils are grounded through the ECU. 13 & 26 are the pins for the grounds that go to the coils.

Nope. The coil is "grounded" by the Power Transistor Module and the power transistors are activated by ECU pins 10 (coil A for cyls 1 and 4) and pin 23 (coil B cyls 2 and 3).
The "ground" side of the coil is connected to PTM pin 8 and PTM pin 1.

If you guys don't know how all this is connected then how could you have checked the harness?

I think it's the timing or a vacuum everything checks out the brown red wire isnt giving signal to the coils.

Then check your timing. I don't understand why a vacuum line would only cause one coil not to fire. Sounds like no input signal or a bad ground. Maybe the Brn/R wire isnt connected to the coil anymore. Have you tried wiring it with new wire?

yeah vacuum thing was something i said out of context,anyways..
yeah i tried connect the brn/r Directly to the coil plug and to the ecu, still nothing. and yeah i know there are 2 brn/r and i got the right one. it's ridiculous.:aha:

Now you may have a bad ECU if it wasn't before. The coil doesn't connect to the ECU and you just applied 12+ volts to a pin that shouldn't be connected to it.

That Brn/R should go to the Transistor. Not to the coil.

DOH! :ohdamn:

Unplug the knock sensor and crank the car! It could have been plugged into the air conditioning plug i have seen it done before and this was the exact problem? Also if you have a logger plug it in and turn the key on and see if all your sensor are fluxuating if they are with just power on your capacitors are leaking.

Where is this knock sensor you speak of? Would it start without it?

It is on the back of the block about in the center and yes it will start with out it and will through a code. Try it though. Then let me know. Also when you turn the key forward do you here the ecu click on and when turning the key off do you here it click about 30 seconds after shutting key off?

Never payed attention too it. Just assumed it was fine sense 2 cylinders fire and swapping ECU's did nothing. Ill have to get back to you Sat. on this problem. Car is still at a friends house and wont get towed to mine till then.

One more thing. If the car will start unhook the b o v from the turbo intake. Then see if you feel air blowing out of the b.o.v it could be leaking bad. Of course i mean with the car idling not reving it and letting off the gas.

DOH! :ohdamn:

the transistor i mean. LOL guess what....i think i found out what the problem is.... my car skipped a tooth. the timing is off one. that tells me why everytime i tested different ecu's the problem would jump back n' fourth from coil to coil!
tomorrow im going to adjust my timing after work!:thumb:

Whats the point of this?

No it switches from coil to coil because the cars used different locations for the Cam Angle Sensor and the ECUs take that into account. When you mix the parts from the the different years, you have to swap the plug wires like discussed early on.

G'AH that's right you are absolutely right.
thanks for the input steve.
but hey, check this out.shitty pic but.. is this right?

No thats not right. I don't believe the car being one tooth off would cause one coil not to fire at all but its worth a try. Let us know what happens.

Lol,i have no idea what pullin' the bov would do....
But hey before all this mess happened i fixed my timing and started my engine up with a boost controller set at mid range ,headers and a new intake.
i dunno maybe the sudden increase in power caused it to skip a tooth?
and i turned it on while it was jacked up.

Unless you're using a 95 CAS it won't work. Period. You have to invert the CAS signal and then change the firing order to that of a 95.

If you had Link you could do this very easily with the click of a mouse and your problems would go away.

alright.. update..
I figured out what my issue of not having spark in cyl. 1&4 were. in attempting to 'clean up' my engine i cut the 'engine speed detection' connector. it didn't ground the coil for cyl. 1&4..

below i have attached the schematic for the 2g turbo ignition system.

Told you it could be a ground. Now what did you do to fix it? and did it fire right up?

Haven't fired her up yet, there's still a bit of a mess with the wire harness. I just followed the schematic and reconnected any wire that I may have cut. Soldered the blue/red wire with the black/white
