i have a dumb question but i am curious about this

i watched a vid on you tube, a guy had a 2.4 4g64 and then took a 4g63t head and put it on the 4g64

is the block the same or whats going on with that

can you take the 2.4 rods pistons and crank out and put it in a 4g63t motor?

and can the rods pistons and crank handle the boost?

ok so you need the whole block from a 2.4 because the 2.4 is 6mm higher than the 2.0

and can the rods and crank handle the boost

and are the bearings the same size
when i buy the rebuild kit i need to know what i need to interchange

can i get the 2.4 block and lower end then put a 4g63t head on it and then buy a rebuild kit for a 2.4 and have them switch out the head gasket set correct?

would this be a wise decision?

keep searching.
bearings are the same, but get them sized by machine shop.

timing belt you need one from a 2.4 dohc, to account for the 6mm taller deck height. Timing side stuff will need to be pulled from a 2.0

The bore of the pistons is different aswell, make sure you get the right ones.

And I beleive the 7bolts need to have coolant or oil passages blocked off.

Have fun. :)

Theres more to it than slapping the 4g63t head on the 4g64 block. If im not mistaken you will need dished pistons because to compression ratio will be too high. You should really read that section thuroughly because they go pretty in dept with everything. Stick to the stroker treads and you will be :thumb:

and can the rods and crank handle the boost QUOTE]

It depends on what you mean by "the boost", are we talking 5-10psi? 20+??

These are questions you should post in the stroker section so the 2.4 gods :hellyeah: can give you facts based on why they have actually done, Not speculation from other Newbs like me.

you start with a 2.4 g4cs block, add a 100mm crank, rods of your choice and some 2.4 pistons of your choise. 86.5mm is standard bore. The 4g63 head will infact bolt right on with no more than 4g63 timing components and a 4g64 timing belt.

I can't speak for stock internals holding up to boost but i had an eagle/ross combo with eagle chromoly crank and i ran 25psi all day long on E-85.

The wise decision part is in the eye of the beholder. I loved my 2.4 setup. It spooled my gt3076 fully by about 3700 and my torque curve kept up with my hp curve even with HKS 272s

So much misinformation!

First off:
-The MAJORITY of 4g64 badged motors are 7 bolts,(there was an exception in 92 with the summits and expo's being a 6 bolt but block was badged as a 4g64)
-G4CS block like mentioned above is a 6bolt!

Next:
BOTH of those motors come with a 100mm crank!
Both are 86.5mm std bore (1mm bigger than a 2.0)
Both are 6mm higher deck height than a 2.0

Pistons & rods:
The same rule applies with these motors for the rod end sizes as a std 2.0
The MAJORITY of 2.4 pistons out there are for a 7bolt
IF you do a 6bolt 2.4, the easiest way to get a piston/rod combo is to buy 7bolt 2.4 pistons, and buy 6bolt rods. Have the Manufacturer press out the bushing on the piston end and put in a 22mm end to fit the 7bolt piston.
NO ONE stocked 6bolt 2.4 pistons when i was in a rush to get my motor together.

Timing side:
bolt up everything from a 2.0.
2.4 timing belt is suggested like stated above.

Bottom end:
The 6bolt 2.4 does not have a stock gridle(joind main caps) Not sure about the 7bolt

Head:
6bolt is boltup.
7bolt I have no first hand experience but I hear there is cooling ports or oil ports that need to be blocked off.

Waterpipe:
My 6bolt 2.4 waterpipe was too shortby a few mm to pressure fit the oring up to the 2.0 waterpump.

Timing cover:
The top bolt holes that bolt to the head will not line up anymore because of the taller deck height.. no fix for that.

Cam Gears: Marks will need to be turned 1/2 tooth clockwise to correctly line up. OR there are some rare 7bolt dohc 2.4 cam gears you can try to find.

Good luck
