So I found a great deal on a 2.3L 6 bolt shortblock, but I cannot find very many threads on here about putting it in a 2g automatic.

I can't figure out if I need the whole $300 Kiggly kit from IPT, or if I just need the flexplate?

Is there anything else involved? Will the motor mounts be different?

Thanks

Umm, putting a 6bolt into a 2G is a very common thing. Just search "6bolt swap". The "stroker 2.3L" is still the same block, just with different internals.

A 6 bolt flex plate will mate to a 2G converter. I was sent a 2G converter by mistake for my car and it bolted up fine. I discovered it because the 2G converter is wider that the 1G and would not seat into the 1G bellhousing properly.

The 6-bolt crankshaft sticks off the back face of the block more than the 7-bolt and the flexplate has a different offset. This pushes the converter into the pump until it is completely bottomed out and will instantly trash the pump without the adapter kit. It cannot be done with just a flexplate, the converter will bottom against the crank before you could get enough offset with a custom flexplate alone. The crank flange dimensions are the same on a 6-bolt and a 7-bolt.

The 2g converter also has a slightly bigger flexplate bolt pattern. I now offer a SFI-approved flexplate with both bolt patterns so no holes need to be elongated to get the bolts in.

Thanks for responses.

Ah okay. Where can I order the kit with the 2 bolt pattern flex plate?
