First of all I would like to say I think I'm ready to start my first project car. I love eclipse simple as that.

My goals: I would love to reach 300 would make me happy. More would be better

I would like ideas and help for this car. I would like somebody to help me start off. I would think I should get a forged block first . Where should I look to get a forged block ?

The stock block is fine, you could even swap it to a 2.4l edz block. Obviously you're going to have to turbo it. Figure 8 psi gets you 200-225whp on stock internals, your power goal is well within reach. The bottom end is the weak link on the 420, so you will want forged pistons and rods. What ideas are you looking for exactly? Im in the process on getting all the bits and pieces together to turbo my 420a. Real street performance has all the 420a internals you'd need to build a nice reliable machine, check em out.

I wanted to do the edz but I figured I should do the 420a due to the fact I'm starting off and want to get more familiar of what I'm working with. Problem is I here knocking in my engine which means I'll have to wait on turbo. Should I just buy a new motor. Can I put the pistons and rods myself ?i learn quick and do everything carefully an I'm pretty sure there's right ups to this. I just don't want to mess with the timing belt part LOL when it comes to that.8 psi is fine with me too. But f I can forge my own block that would be great. Don't know what should i do

First, what budget do you have to work with?

Next is read..... alot! what you want to do is not new, the info is here on the forum.

Blocks are cast and made of cast iron.
Pistons can be forged, rods can be forged.
But I have not seen a forged block.

I am sure you could assemble your own engine, as long as you know what to pay attention too. here again Read, the info is here.

I have around 2000 and when I said forged block I meant as internals , sorry. I ready every chance I get.

I will not tell you to sell your car and buy a GST/GSX but ....

I would get a 4g63 6 bolt out of a 1G.
Could even do a 2g 7 bolt if you wanted, but the 6 bolt will be the better choice.

Why you should ditch the 420a... With the amount of time and money you will have invested into forged internals, turbo, manifold, Intercooler, ecu, piping for the 420a, you could have bought a gst or gsx...

You can't go wrong with the 4g63! Stock bottom end holds a ton of power! Youtube The DSM song!

$2000 is a start

Time you buy pistons, rings, rod and main bearings, H beam rods, gasket set, arp head studs, you have spent about $1300 This is for new parts. yes you can shave a few bucks by waiting for the deals or a part out.

Now you have $700 left for a tuning solution, Wide band O2, Turbo, header, fuel injectors, IC and pipes, fittings, any machine work you want or need, fluids, filters ect.. ect..

I just do not see $2000 being a budget enough to do the basics of what needs done to make your car a safe and reliable Daily driver.

Personally I would say triple your budget and that should put you closer to the real world amount you need to do the basics right.

I was thinking of that. I do want to sell my car . But sometimes it's just left and right . I love the body idc about te engine I love 4g63 too. If I do find a gsx I will most likely buy it but I keep looking and nothing. I love the AWD . Awd is what I want in the car preferably .

I have never been big on making a DD a toy/project.

If you love the car, Keep it. Do all the basic maintenance and do a few bolt ons and call it good. Drive the wheels off it, get good gas mileage, know when you hit the key you are good to go. Get to school, work, and moms house for dinner.

Now get you a project, stack cash and just look and wait till you find what you want. Now dump the cash and build your project... if it has to sit in the back yard a month or two it can.

Basic maintenance is a must, Get the engine nice and sound. Then you can decide what to do next as said above. You could just do proper maintenance then turbo it down the road. 255 fuel pump and FMU is all you need to run 8 psi or under safely and reliably on stock internals. I talked to a guy whos running 8psi, no bov or intercooler. Its at 210k miles and its been turbod since 190k with no issues. You can have a barebones turbo kit put together by yourslef for under 2k easy.
