420A Project

Where are the 420a Tuners at I'm building a 420a yes I know it's pricey but If you got the cash to get it done it will be done I'm trying to Achieve 400-500whp where should I start first on my build I'm thinking about the Status 2.4 block with 420a head

Putting in a NV-T350 from a 2004 PT Cruiser. Decided against one out of a neon because getting one with the 3.55 gearing is like a lottery, so I grabbed it out of the cruiser... It only cost me $80 with a year warranty too!! I still have minor stuff to do to it like installing the starter and Slave but then ill be testing it out on the road.

That was one of my reasons. I'm not turbo'd yet but it is inline for it(maybe next month since I should be getting a decent amount of money). My main reason was my transmission had no 5th gear LOL. Put it in 5th and it would ride like neutral.

So are gears sorter on the pt cruiser. And I got a question if any of you guys would know I have 4g63 evo4 Pistons and rods I was wondering if you guys would know if they would work or not the evo 4 was 2.0 and do you guys know the ratio of the rods cause if just pistons work for it that would be awesome

4g63 parts won't work in 420a motors. They're completely different. You should start your own thread.

There are some differences for the gears on the transmission. I don't have the exact numbers but I know the casing and gears themselves are stronger and it also puts out roughly 30 more ft/lbs. torque. As for the pistons no it will not work in a 420a(if you can find proof that it can I would love to see it as that would be a new upgrade path for us N/Ts). There are countless threads all over the internet stating this. As for going 2.4 srt vs 2.0 the amount of work you would need to do(mount fabrication etc.) outweighs the cost of building the current motor. Yes you may end up with more power but at the same time its going to cost alot more. Back to pistons, you can see if some companies will custom make you some pistons(I forget which ones but it has been done fore our motor before). http://realstreetperformance.com/Sh...s-Eagle-Rods-Combo-Dodge-Mitsubishi-420A.html that is an example of some pistons you can use(you have 2 options with compression 9.0:1 and 10.5:1)

Sorry didn't realize that.

The 2.4 has balance shafts run by a chain, and you'll have to fab the pass. side motor mount, amog a numer of other smaller fabs iirc. Its doable but its not a drop-in-and-go afair.

As far as power goes it'll probably be your best bet. Go for it :thumb:

Here's one thread with more info click

Awesome thanks man I really appreciate the links I'm completely new to the 420a's and I'm completely dedicated to it I'm just looking for options cause if the evo 4 pistons did work there like rated at 600 horse max so it's a cheap upgrade if it was possible you know LOL cause I'm building the whole motor for boost I need to find some one that has done the Stratus block swap so I can get details I'm forsurely looking in too the PT trans now LOL bad part is I just got my old one rebuilt :p

Theres a chance you may get lucky but use rods from a 420a so you have proper clearence. Definitely get them cleaned and the bore may be incorrect. Let me check the book real quick. The bore i definitely different. the 420a is 87.5mm x 83.0mm
The 4g63 is 85.0mm x 88.0 mm. Im sorry to say there is not proper clearance.

Hahah well it was worth a try thanks for the info!!

It's nearly impossible to find a drop in aluminum radiator for the 420a. One option is to buy a 4g63 radiator and have the inlet/outlet moved as needed or fab up new coolant pipes.

If you click on my car below this it will take you to my build thread. I'm running an AFCO radiator sitting where the AC condenser used to sit.
