I want to double check but I finally got my 91 running almost perfect and ran into a linkage problem. Its a 97 tranny that was rebuilt by jacks with an evo 1st and 5th gear. The car is a 91 talon tsi. Its slides into 2nd, 4th, and rev. Perfectly. When going into 1st, 3rd and 5th as soon as I feather the throttle it pops out of gear or grinds. It feels as if the cables can't quite get completely into those gears. The shifter bottoms out on the rubber stopper before gear is completely engaged.
I think I have found the problem but want to double check before I go through all the work. If I'm right, I think I have to run 2g cables with the 2g cable mounts on the tranny.

Any help would be great. I have searched and found close to my problem but not the answer. Thank you.

Yea sorry I should have stated that. I adjusted them as far as it would go. The shifter still bottoms out before in gear completely. I found a different bracket I'm going to try.

Try the bracket. Seems like a problem with linkage or bracket and not trans. I had the same issue and turned out someone used a few incorrect parts. Once everything was back to stock my linkage was within the adjustable range to fix my issue.
