1gb Seatbelts -- Canadian ones manual?

Every time my power seatbelts sneak up and strangle the crap out of me, it makes me wonder if there is any way to switch them to manual belts. I don't care about anyone that sits in the back seat anyway, so if they trip and fall when getting out of the car, that's fine (actually, being an EMT, I suppose I could consider it "drumming up business" LOL).

Anyway, all joking aside, I vaguely recall hearing somewhere that Canadian 1g DSMs came with manual seatbelts instead of the strangle-belts in the American versions -- is there any truth to that? If so, does anyone know of any Canadian junkyards with a good supply of DSMs?

Same here, I've only ever seen manuals also. There is a junkyard here that has a nice selection of doner cars but it may be a little far for you to get to for seatbelts. If you do happen up this way its called backyard auto, their phone # 1-204-224-4750. Last time I was there they had about 8 1g's.

Thanks, I think I may make up a parts list and give them a call to see if they'll ship to the US :)

Never hurts to call the worst they can say is no. I just hope they havent scraped all of them yet. Keep in mind that all the cars there are 2wd and none have a complete motor. Whenever one shows up the first thing to go is the head and turbo system. I deal at this wrecker alot and they have realy good prices. I got some interior swiches some dash parts, the privicey cover two front caliper brackets and other misc nuts and bolts for $15.

My car is from good old Canada. I hate cars that have the choker seat belts. I remember seeing the seatbelt/hardware set from a Canadian dsm for sale on ebay a while back, so I'm assuming it can be done. I remember it being around $60 though.

To do the swap you would need the A Piller and B Piller plastic. Then of course the belts and retractors. A buddy of mine has the Canadian belts in his talon.

I had looked into this mod. The information I have found is that most manufacture and safty board insist that the seat belt restraint system should be replaced after it has been engaged during a moderate to severe accident. It is considered a one time use item, and should be inspected after any crash no matter how minor. I hope any one pulling the seatbelts from a junkyard keeps this in mind. Doing a search online unfortunately you will have to sift through a lot of info on child safety seats but it is out there. Here is a link that I was able to find fairly quickly, if I find any others I will post them.

Yeah, I know that (I'm an EMT and end up at car accidents all the time), but thank's for posting that for others that might not know. If I can get the parts I need, I'll probably end up replacing all of the webbing.

I'm going to replace my auto-stranglers as soon as my canadian seat belts get here. A member of the canadian boards was parting out his car so i asked him if he would sell them to me. As of right now im waiting on them in the mail. Ill let you guys know when i get them in and how everything goes.
