I just received canadian belts from a member here. I know they worked in his car. But now that they are in my posession I cant get them to pull out more than 1/4 inch at a time. They retract fine. From all I have read they may need to be unlocked. Any one done this on these?

Nice score, hopefully. This is while you're holding them in your hands, I assume. I had the same thing. They have internal weights/springs that must be level to the normal, installed orientation to "unlock" on their own. right now your belts "think" you've rolled the car, and are keeping you safe.

That would do it. If the won’t unspool while installed, then you might have a malfunction. I would be very surprised, though, if they both had the same problem. I have found some companies that restore/repair old belts, but not tried them yet. My dsm Canada belts are a little sluggish to pullout, and don’t like to retract like a new car. I actually have the same issue with a 99 Toyota RAV4, so I may send one of those in as a test, and see how it goes. Definitely don’t want to use my still decently operating, rare eclipse belts.

This is one that I found, but there are others, I recall.

If anybody else had tried this, chime in..

I found a few too... but when i was playing with them by hand they would occassionally release(maybe i had the right angle). Will bolt it in and try first.. these were a score for sure and even match my interior

The first answer to this post is spot on. As a Master Upholsterer, I have dealt with those darn things all my working life. I did a car one time ..when the belts came in they were very slack, so I turned them a little tighter.. The first time she used them, it ripped her necklace right off her neck...Whoops.. There went my profit

Mounted one and youall got it! Learned something new.

On another note since the us midtrim does have provisions for the top 17mm... do I nees to source a canadian one?

Ive seem some folks do the conversion with a hole cut into the trim on the U.S. model trim and it looks it. Hard to make it look good unless you do get the Canada specific B-pillar trim, upper half. Also the A-pillar (windshield) trim has a Canada specific trim, but it’s not as obvious if you don’t get them.
