The only reason I didn't use the stock lower seatbelt locations is because of the large angle between the seat slots and where they attach. It'd be on the edge of the advised angle limits.

Honestly this strut tower bar feels strong as hell. I bolted both harnesses up to it and gave each harness a mighty tug and the whole car rocked but nothing else happened. I can't see a situation that I would be able to survive in the first place that would put the strut tower bar past is failure point. If I didn't think it was safe I wouldn't have ever done it. Like I said in another post, you'd be surprised how weakly the stock shoulder belt is held in at the top, try two 8x1.25 bolts. My pair of 7/16" bolts in the rear are much larger and I feel as safe as the stock shoulder harnesses. Hell take a look at the harness bars that sparco sells for cars like the evo and wrx, it's nothing more than a strut bar that goes right behind the seats.

idk about that but that sparco thing looks pretty safe i dont think id ever use something like that im just worried that if someone were to get in a accident and the strut tower like ripped off or moved something bad could happen..dont get me wrong its a cool idea  but dont want to see anyone hurt...maybe we should get more opinions

Any chance of someone doing a write up on this? I saw the post at www.vfaq.com, but shouldn't we have one here too, with materials list, and a more thorough explanation.

I followed that vfaq exactly when I did mine. Only changes were the way my belts attached.

i had my stock seats reupholstered a while back, and there is a seam right at shoulder height, that i had left open and had a loop of fabric sewn into that seam. when i used my harnesses, i could put them through the loop to hold in place (and not fall down off my shoulder), but when i take out the harness, the loop tucked back inside the seam and looked TOTALLY stock. the lady that did my seats came up with that idea. I can get pics if anyone is interested in that setup (the seats are for sale BTW)

ok, i like the stock seats in my 1ga talon.. and since im going to be farily fast on the track. i bought a harenss.. so here is my delima

how the heck could someone put a hole or some kind of bezel in the stock 1g seat for 2 sholder straps for a harenss?? anyone have any ideas? Getting aftermarket seats is OUT OF the QUESTION, spending even 200 dollars on a seat is stupid when i could buy ss fuel lines, a fuel cell, or any other perforamnce related part..

so if anyone has positive feedback is greatly appriciated.. if your going to flame please keep it to yourself and DO NOT POST!!

thanks.
VFAQ.com has a great way to do it...check there under saftey i belive. they haev a link to get the little squares, then you cut a hole in your seat. ill try adn find it
It wont link directly to it, but it says corebu has the inserts. Go to www.vfaq.com and check out the safety section.

Did you even read the whole thread where we linked to that vfaq and then discussed in length the process itself?

You're fine, I was just poking fun at you for a little :thumb:

this looks like a pretty cool idea, can someone snap a pic with someone actually USING the harness though? :)

I'll see if I can convince my girl to come out in the cold and take a picture.

well, unless she's not wearing any clothes :thumb: she probably DOES own a jacket, right? what's wrong with the cold weather???

She usually puts something on when she goes outside, the main problem though is that she's sick.

Still waiting to see pics of devlish's setup..... then shell out money i don't have to devlish for setup.... no wonder my g/f hates my car....

Alright, i'm bringing this thread back becuase I just got into the harness world and can't seem to figure out the safest place to mount the shoulder straps...

I have a rear strut bar also that has holes premade for i thought harnesses..?
in order to test out the strength of the strut bar i put it on two cinder blocks and repeatedly jumped on it and it wouldn't bend (keep in mind i'm 6'0'' 200lbs) so I threw down a good amount of force and it withheld it fine.

So i ended up running the shoulder straps back there and like mavisky said you can pull on them pretty hard and they don't budge. I'd like to see soem pictures of how other people installed them.

Also where did you guys bolt the belt straps down? some pictures would definitly help!

p.s. i have 4 point sparco's.

My lap belt straps go between the floor and the seat rails and are held in place by the two 14mm bolts that hold the seat in.

oh ok, i got ya, LOL i was trying to put them on top of the rail and then put the bolt in...(i gotta learn to work smarter not harder) anyways you said you have the shoulder straps goin to the rear strut bar right ?
Do you have any pics?

Any problems with your harnesses...with police, safety issues, comfort? thanks again

Comfort not an issue, but it can get old putting them on all the time. Mine only gets driven a couple times a week at most though.
