ok, i like the stock seats in my 1ga talon.. and since im going to be farily fast on the track. i bought a harenss.. so here is my delima

how the heck could someone put a hole or some kind of bezel in the stock 1g seat for 2 sholder straps for a harenss?? anyone have any ideas? Getting aftermarket seats is OUT OF the QUESTION, spending even 200 dollars on a seat is stupid when i could buy ss fuel lines, a fuel cell, or any other perforamnce related part..

so if anyone has positive feedback is greatly appriciated.. if your going to flame please keep it to yourself and DO NOT POST!!

thanks.

you could buy polyurathane seats used on dune buggys.not comfy, not pretty but functional and i believe it has slots for a 5 point harness.look through a copy of hot vw or vw trends for vendors.im not sure if they have websites but these vendors used to have them back when i lived and breathed, yet never owned a vw(technically i had a 66 but it was stolen by an uncle to part out.including the fresh 1300 cc engine :thumbdown )and recently i had a 63 ghia screwed out of me

rockymountain motorwerks

socal imports

jbugs

strictly foreign

i think the seats average 65ish each, lowbacks for about 40.

Not too shabby. I kinda like the way those grommets look. Except I would try to fab up a b-pillar bar to hook the shoulder straps too, plus it will stiffen up the car.

those grommets are exactally what i was lookin for. but i cant find em for the life of me.. im going to call around tommrow and see what i can find. or something simular..

there is a guy on ebay where i got my harness its a RCI 3inch SPI approved and in 2 years if i send them the harness and regerestation thing they replace it for free.. and the total cost plus shipped was 90 bucks.. so they are nice.. not just to find the grommets..

thanks guys

You can get the harness slots @ Apexperformance.net
That is where I got mine, you need to call to order them, they are NOT on the site. You will have to order to sets to make it work, they are pretty cheap too.
Pics are big, here is the link of mine.
I have since revised the mounting of the back harness to the top mount of one of the back seatbelts before anyone says anything.

now why didnt you go with proper nhra approved harness's??my goal is mid 11's to low 10's and i have a evo setup im putting on for auto x.. hehehe so im going to need to go w/ 3inch harness's??

that is a clean install tho.. nice job.. what was the cost total of the grommets for the two sholder belts and the sub belt?

I had no idea you'd done this mod Paul. How much did it help you? I just need something to hold me in place a little better during autocrossing this year. I just get flung around the car far before I hit the car's handling limits. It'd be really nice to be held in a little better. Any pics of exactly where you've mounted the seat belts to? I was going to either use my rear strut bar or one of the rear seat belt mounting points.

Because I am not a big drag racer, that is why.
3" harnesses are not required for autox, in fact no harnesses are required.
It is a 3 point double release Corbeau harness, so that and the grommets ran about $100.

Kyle, I haven't had a chance to test it on an autox run yet, since my car has been broken for a while. Driving on the street, it holds you in much better though.
I mounted the outside harness bolt in w/ the stock bolt that hold the retractor for the lap belt, while keeping the lap belt. The inside bolt, I tossed out the mystery rail between the console and the seat. I then removed my rear belts, and mounted the 3rd upper harness to where the stock retractor is in the quarter panel area. It is mounted a bit lopsided b/c of where the lower bolts by the seats are, but good enough for now.
Don't have any pics, may be able to get some in a few weeks when I go to work on the car again.

I got polyurathane seats from summit for like $30.00, and RCI 4 point harnesses. I drive the car everyday, the seats are supportive and arent bad to sit in for long drives. At 15 pounds a piece it will take a decent amount of weight off your car compared to using the stock seats. But it your set on using your stock seats follow that vfaq that mavisky posted. good luck man

no i was able to get a couple of the grommets from apexi motor sport.. nice people over there, it took me about 4 days from order till they arrived at my house. so.. ill probally install them today or tommrow

I use no cover or anything, I bought their sliding braket for the driver''s side and just bolted the passenger seat straight down. You have to fab up some framing rails for it to bolt in the sotck location, but it is simple. Just go to homedepot or lowes, and buy some strap steel, measure, drill some holes, and throw them in.

How do they compare to other fixed back seats like the sparco sprint and speed or momo t-frames? Do they hold you in as well in side to side movements as you'd like them too?

I have never sat in any other racing seat except these, but they hold me in great 6', 220#'s. I have had alot of friends and my girlfriend sit in the passenger seat with out any problems, but I'd say if you have larger than like a 40" waist look some else for seats.

Dave - I just may be picking up a set of the Summit seats, because the Corbeau's are creeping farther and farther out of my budget

The reason I asked is because I'm about 6'1" and only about 180 with a 34" waist. The only thing I'm worried about is that I believe that for solo II your seat needs to be covered in fabric, I'll have to check out what they'd say about this setup, they also don't allow you to make cuts into the seat to allow the harnesses to pass through. They may look over it though at most small autocrosses.

Just an FYI.....the grommets in the Vfaq can be ordered directly from Corbeau. They are the GT7 style slot and cost $11 each.
