Are those attached at the upper rear seat belt attachment point?

After reading the last post I have a question. I have a set of Tenzo R Rally seats with Sparco Clubman 4 pt harnesses. I have the lap belts hooked under the center console and where the retractor used to be for the outside lap belt. My question is about the shoulder harnesses. I have the center shoulder harnesses hooked into where the center of the rear seat area where the seat belt receivers used to be. I then have the outside harnesses hooked into the bottom connection for the stock seat belt used to be. All shoulder harnesses connect under the rear seat. The center ones go through the stock holes and the outside ones go imbetween the cushion and the plastic panel. I hope all of that made sense. I was wondering if this setup is okay? I can't remember what the exact max angle is but the belts don't seem to be at any extreme angles. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know having a cage with a harness bar is optimal but I don't have/need a cage yet.

Here's another thing I've noticed about my harnesses. The ones I have the 4 pt harness is 2 pieces. On each side the lap harness is sewn together with the shoulder harness. I don't particularly care for this. I'd rather just buckle the lap belt for most cruising around town and snap the shoulders in when I'm going to be doing some serious driving. Anyway theres two pennies for those of you getting ready to buy harnesses.

mine is a 5point i just dont have the sub belt put in quite yet.. still has some mounting descrepencies.. anyway i did close to teh same as you. i bolted everything down where the oem belt were bolted and the sholder harness at the c pillar

as far as individual belts like i have you need either a cam lock style belt or a 5 point before you have the individual straps..

Off the top of my head I think the max angle was something like 20 degrees. I was going to use the same spots as you have, but i haven't checked the angles yet. The lower the seat the less the angle will be, so for some people it may work fine, for others it may not.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but:

I have the leather seats and don't really want to cut into them. Can I run a 3 point harness with it? And just run the bottom of the "Y" part of the harness (which is actually the top of the harness) through the headrest, then back to a strut bar? Or would this be to uncomfertable?

I finished up mine. I used garage door trim (2 3/4" wide) from Home Depot. 10' roll for $6.99, worked great.

I'll post pics later when I take them.

the problem is these are too thin and will not work.

Your link is a broken link, try all of the above to fix it.

Well screw my local corbeau dealer, I called them 5 days ago with what I wanted and left my cell number. Not a call back since. After waiting for 6 hours the first day I just called Corbeau themselves and they sold them to me for the $11/piece price. Also picked up a set of 4 point sparco belts 3rd hand for $60, they retail for $95/piece new and other than a few dirty spots they're in perfect shape. Will most likely be attaching these to my rear strut tower bar. All the parts should be in at the end of this week, problem is that I'll be in chicago all week for training. When its all done I'll post pics and specs on weight saved from replacing the sliding belts.

Copied from my home board.

Well I finally got all the stuff installed the other day. Car is awesome feeling now that I'm not flying around the interior. The harnesses are mounted in two different locations. the lap belts are bolted to the floor with the rear seat bolts. Each side has its own tab that I simply slid underneath the seat rails and it works better than the stock attachment points which seemed to be too far away and caused the belt to ride up your gut when you tightened the shoulder straps. The rear straps are of course individually attached ot the strut tower bar. The nice thing about the Megan Racing strut tower bar, (other than its cheap) is the fact that it has 2 bolt holes on either side that you can pass the hardware through. I used a nylon washer against the top face of the strut tower bar to keep the finish looking nice as possible. I followed the VFAQ on the harness slots, which they still do sell from Corbeau for $11 a piece. Took about a week to get here, but I wasn't in a big hurry. In the end I removed the sliding tracks, center retractors, all seat belt mounting parts for the front seats, cut off the rear seat harnesses, but haven't yet removed the re-tractors since it's going to be a pain in the ass to get all that plastic off back there. At the end of it all I'd saved my self about 26 pounds from the vehicle although that doesn't inlcude the weight of the sparco harnesses I put in their place.

I don't think I could cut through my leather to do this. So like I asked before: woult it be possible to just get a 3 point harness and slide the top through the headrest and the seat(the gap there) and then bolt it up to the strut bar that way. Or will it slide around to much?

I did that to mine for about a day in the name of discovery and it honestly worked pretty good.

It's a 2" harness, same width as stock 3 points  I got these because I couldn't pass on the price. I payed 1/3 of what these go for new. Eventually I'd like to go with a full 5 point, but at that point I'll probably lose the passenger seat altogether.

Is it NHRA-safe to run the belts back to the rear strut tower brace?

Will that thing hold in a bad accident? I guese it depends what one you have too... I have just seen a few that I cant imagine taking all that force. Some of them would probably bend, or worse, wouldnt they?

I don't think the NHRA would care where I have my belts attached to in a 14 second car, but I wouldn't try and use this mounting system on a 10 second car or anything. The only reason I really installed them was because I got a good deal on them and they help me considerably when it comes to driving around since my stock seats are all worn out on the bolsters and I can't afford a set of corbeaus or sparco's for the car yet.

wouldn't it be safer to mount the two rear belts to the oem places? or would that rear strut actually hold up? i wouldnt like seeing my girlfriend or my best freind fly through the windsheild with me if something ever happened.. :barf: anyone good on safety issues?

Yea, my friends thinks I'm a complete retard for wanting to hook up the harness to the strut bar. Because he says if I get into the crash, that can bend, making the whole idea of a seat belt useless. He has his bolted to his roll cage, so it can't really bend.

The only reason I didn't use the stock lower seatbelt locations is because of the large angle between the seat slots and where they attach. It'd be on the edge of the advised angle limits.

Honestly this strut tower bar feels strong as hell. I bolted both harnesses up to it and gave each harness a mighty tug and the whole car rocked but nothing else happened. I can't see a situation that I would be able to survive in the first place that would put the strut tower bar past is failure point. If I didn't think it was safe I wouldn't have ever done it. Like I said in another post, you'd be surprised how weakly the stock shoulder belt is held in at the top, try two 8x1.25 bolts. My pair of 7/16" bolts in the rear are much larger and I feel as safe as the stock shoulder harnesses. Hell take a look at the harness bars that sparco sells for cars like the evo and wrx, it's nothing more than a strut bar that goes right behind the seats.
