I was wondering if this setup is okay? I can't remember what the exact max angle is but the belts don't seem to be at any extreme angles. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know having a cage with a harness bar is optimal but I don't have/need a cage yet.Blizz92tsi said:After reading the last post I have a question. I have a set of Tenzo R Rally seats with Sparco Clubman 4 pt harnesses. I have the lap belts hooked under the center console and where the retractor used to be for the outside lap belt. My question is about the shoulder harnesses. I have the center shoulder harnesses hooked into where the center of the rear seat area where the seat belt receivers used to be. I then have the outside harnesses hooked into the bottom connection for the stock seat belt used to be. All shoulder harnesses connect under the rear seat. The center ones go through the stock holes and the outside ones go imbetween the cushion and the plastic panel. I hope all of that made sense.I was wondering if this setup is okay? Here's another thing I've noticed about my harnesses. The ones I have the 4 pt harness is 2 pieces. On each side the lap harness is sewn together with the shoulder harness. I don't particularly care for this. I'd rather just buckle the lap belt for most cruising around town and snap the shoulders in when I'm going to be doing some serious driving. Anyway theres two pennies for those of you getting ready to buy harnesses.

Well I finally got all the stuff installed the other day. Car is awesome feeling now that I'm not flying around the interior. The harnesses are mounted in two different locations. the lap belts are bolted to the floor with the rear seat bolts. Each side has its own tab that I simply slid underneath the seat rails and it works better than the stock attachment points which seemed to be too far away and caused the belt to ride up your gut when you tightened the shoulder straps. The rear straps are of course individually attached ot the strut tower bar. The nice thing about the Megan Racing strut tower bar, (other than its cheap) is the fact that it has 2 bolt holes on either side that you can pass the hardware through. I used a nylon washer against the top face of the strut tower bar to keep the finish looking nice as possible. I followed the VFAQ on the harness slots, which they still do sell from Corbeau for $11 a piece. Took about a week to get here, but I wasn't in a big hurry. In the end I removed the sliding tracks, center retractors, all seat belt mounting parts for the front seats, cut off the rear seat harnesses, but haven't yet removed the re-tractors since it's going to be a pain in the ass to get all that plastic off back there. At the end of it all I'd saved my self about 26 pounds from the vehicle although that doesn't inlcude the weight of the sparco harnesses I put in their place.

I got these because I couldn't pass on the price. I payed 1/3 of what these go for new. Eventually I'd like to go with a full 5 point, but at that point I'll probably lose the passenger seat altogether.telly699 said:Is it NHRA-safe to run the belts back to the rear strut tower brace?
Will that thing hold in a bad accident? I guese it depends what one you have too... I have just seen a few that I cant imagine taking all that force. Some of them would probably bend, or worse, wouldnt they?
anyone good on safety issues?JoL said:wouldn't it be safer to mount the two rear belts to the oem places? or would that rear strut actually hold up? i wouldnt like seeing my girlfriend or my best freind fly through the windsheild with me if something ever happened..anyone good on safety issues?
True. My friend is a honda owner. Thats probobly it.mavisky said:The only reason I didn't use the stock lower seatbelt locations is because of the large angle between the seat slots and where they attach. It'd be on the edge of the advised angle limits.
Honestly this strut tower bar feels strong as hell. I bolted both harnesses up to it and gave each harness a mighty tug and the whole car rocked but nothing else happened. I can't see a situation that I would be able to survive in the first place that would put the strut tower bar past is failure point. If I didn't think it was safe I wouldn't have ever done it. Like I said in another post, you'd be surprised how weakly the stock shoulder belt is held in at the top, try two 8x1.25 bolts. My pair of 7/16" bolts in the rear are much larger and I feel as safe as the stock shoulder harnesses. Hell take a look at the harness bars that sparco sells for cars like the evo and wrx, it's nothing more than a strut bar that goes right behind the seats.
