1g nonturbo to turbo swap

ok i have a 93 with a 4g37, or 1.8 liter SOHC. there's a 90 tsi for sale near me that i want to buy and swap the motor into my car. i'd jsut drive the talon but its auto and has alot of body issues. my question is this: iive heard from multiple people that this swap never works because something happens that the engine doesnt work. what exactly is it that doesn work? i dont need to hear that its gonna be alot of work, etc, etc becuase i know that already but im willing to do it anyway. also, because my car is fwd and the motor is coming from an awd, will there be match up issues? or will it jsut bolt right up? i ask because i know the tranny sits more on the pass side on the fwd (atleast on my car) and its more center on the awd, so will i need a new tranny to go with it?

also, im considering an awd converison later down the road. has anyone ever heard of this being done before? im thinking of pulling the awd components off of the talon as well and then buy an awd manual tanny when im ready to do the swap. any input would be helpful.

The swap is possible, but it tends to give people headaches with the driveability. You aer going tohave to swap the harness and mounts out of the car. Also need to put in the new computer of course. The guy that did it locally also said he had to swap out the dash display. It was definitely alot of work.

As for going awd, that is another thing in itself. You would have to raise your floorboard for the driveshaft to get to the back wheels

like you said, alot of work, the motor swap in itself seems possible, theres just alot to change out, ive used fwd motors with an awd tranny before (all blocks are the same) but you will need to get a fwd trany out of a 2.0 to work, the 1.8 tranny will not bolt up, i have a 2.0 awd and a 1.8 laser too and ive thought about the same thing a while back for the same reasons as you. im not sure if the shifter cables will work either..being theyre sized for a differnt tranny..but those are also replaceable, and you defenently need a 2.0 computer, not sure if itll plug right in or not.??prolly not though.and theres prolly tons of other things that need swapped, i guess you need to find someone whos done it and get all the info you can before attempting it. as for the awd conversion, it aint gonna happen, i guess technically you could do it, but you could also technically turn your talon into a space ship and fly it to the moon,(which would probably be easier) even if you have all the doner parts, you still cant fit the driveshaft, your exhaust, your gas tank and a host of other problems..
