I have been doing some research on this, its gets rather confusing at times. I was going to ask if i could do a good tune for the 14b for 18psi with just a wideband or if id need a logger. i have the maft and i can get a wideband to hook up for a few days for just a rough tune i suppose. any help would be appreciated.

Looks good to me. I'm running a very similar setup; Palm IIIc with MMCd software, with a no-BS OBD1 cable from 1glink.com. Some other useful cables over there too, though I haven't yet needed anything else.

When buying, I knew I wanted a IIIc. Simple, cheap, and effective. Needed to have the cradle, wall charger, and most importantly, the stylus. A HotSync cable is included in the aforementioned package, which is somewhat handier than the cradle (though I have yet to take mine out the the package). This kit gave me all of that, and Eric even warranties all of the sales through his site for a year.

Finally, it's nice to meet another WV DSMer. We're a rare breed.

yeah wv dsmers are a bit rare, ha i got like 2 or 3 others up in the northern panhandle. thanks for all the help everyone, youve made me choice a lot easier

The problem with using a wideband to tune is that it doesn't really show you everything that is happening in closedloop. Its great for tuning WOT AFR, but the ECU takes control during closedloop operation, which includes idling and light cruising. For that, you need to see the fueltrims, especially when you are trying to tune a MAFT. You need to use the logger to get the MAFT base, low, and mid settings correct so that your fueltrims are somewhere near 100.
