Car: 1994 Eagle Talon TSi, FWD, 5 speed

We had it picked up from 400km's away and dropped off, never seen or test drove it. ROFL We took it for a drive up the block it got stuck in 3rd, car stalled. Put it back in neutral started it up, got into the back, then it wouldn't go into gear.

Problem: Won't go into gear, but when jacked up with the passenger tire off the ground it will shift into all gears. But if you press the brake with the clutch pedal down, it just stalls. Let the jack down it doesn't go into gear and stalls when you press the brakes.

All help will be appreciated

Just finished replacing the slave ..Bleed the lines..Watched the slave , it moves proper
Also if we start it in neutral , and give it a push it will go into gear

Look up under the dash where the master is at and see if it is leaking fluid. IF it isn't leaking than try to adjust the rod on the clutch master to where the clutch pedal is higher.

Just had a similar problem with shifting a leaking master cylinder, a leak of course, then i replaced it, and adjusted the rod under the dash and no more shifting issues.

Master is leaking :hellyeah: ..So glad i don't have to rip out a transmission for once ..BUT i have never played with the rod before ...Whats a good starting point for the rod ?

Installed the new one today , i am not locked out of gear just grinds as soon as i try to put it in any gear ...Do i need to adjust the rod more ? I bled the line ,could they still be air hiding in the line? It gets pressure, when i open the line it squirts nicely

You may or may not need the clutch slave extension rod that ExtremePSI sells. Have you looked at the shifter cables at all? That could be not letting the car go into gear properly as well.

It will go into gear if the passenger side tire is in the air ..I can now almost put it in gear when its on the ground ..I will try messing with the rod some more , and see what happens

With the passenger tire off the ground once i put it in gear, with the clutch still to the floor, the tire starts to spin. I can lift my foot off the clutch and won't die, no gas. But if i have the clutch pedal to the floor, in gear and press the brake it will stall out.

I Replaced the slave, the master, bled the shhhhiiit out of the lines tried adjusting the rod both ways (yes i've seen jacks video).

If the tire is on the ground no go on getting it into gear unless the car is rolling. Don't know what else to try, been at it for 2 days now.

You will most likely have to pull the transmission and either replace the fork and pivot ball, or just shim the pivot ball is nothing else worked.

That could be the problem..When i put on the clutch a tiny bit you can hear alittle sound tob sound i am guessing

Not sure ..we did get to take it for one drive , when it was picked up they couldnt get it into any gear since the slave and master were toast

I haven't changed the clutch ..Transmission hasn't been out yet
Pump the pedal , hold down open the slave bleeder , close , repump , hold , open bleeder etc
Both new? Was the flywheel re-surfaced? Again, did you measure the step height?

What method did you use to bleed the system?

If the fork is in the correct position as per RRE's picture, the flywheel step height is correct and the master and slave are free of air, its quite possible that the pedal assembly is worn. This is such a common problem on 1G DSMs and is often overlooked. Push the clutch pedal to the floor, allow it to return to the up position, then grab the pedal and pull up. If you can pull the pedal upward at all, the assembly is in need of a rebuild and you will never get the clutch to operate properly until you do this. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell if the assembly is worn by checking it in the way I just described, so there is another method you can try, which is to unscrew the adjustment rod all the way out of the clevis on the lever and then push the pedal to the floor and pull it up by hand- if the assembly is worn, there will be a pronounced snapping that can be heard and felt in the pedal as the worn parts shift back and forth.

The pedal assembly is fine comes , to the top no extra play ..pushes the rod fine no free play any where ,

So i ran into the same problem in my 95 tsi and I replaced the master and slave. I just bought a stage 3 clutch kit and after i installed it The issue went away. the kit came with flywheel clutch and pressure plate. If i were to put money on an answer i would say flywheel, figuring i had the same issue and the problem went away after new flywheel was used.

Well looks like the transmission will be ripped apart tomorrow
Problems that could be.. Bad or bent fork , Tob messed up , clutch stuck to flywheel , flywheel messed up ..Hopefully its the flywheel i have a new one already kicking around good time to toss in a bigger clutch and the act 2700 pressure plate :D
