Alright here it goes. Car is a 1995 Eclipse GST. I know this will sound newbie but bring it on cause this isnt my first swap and between me and four other DSM owners we can figure it out and get it right. I bought my project car from a mechanic sending this car to it's grave at a scrap yard. Saved a decent DSM! Now the mechanic told me that the previous owner had swapped it from a 2G to a 1G and installed a bigger turbo which was the demise of his car. Turbo over spooled and blew the motor. Now the guy never returned to get his car hence why the mechanic was trying to get it out of his shop. Now that you know the cars history, I want to put this beast back on the road. In my budget right now all I can find is a JDM motor. Which upon research has led me to believe are better on low end torque with the cyclone. Now I am quite sure I need a 1G motor and that everything has been swapped for a 1G but me and my buddies are confirming that looking at thier 1G cars to prove what the mechanic said was true. Now for the questions. I want to know what all differences are between the JDM and USDM motors. I understand how to notify if they have a JDM motor (red valve cover). But is there any electrical differences between a JDM and USDM motor. If there is I just need to know if it is just easier to put in a JDM wire harness and ECU? Or can i still use my stock harness and ECU? I don't have any of the motor from the car that was blown by the previous owner. The mechanic took it out and sold it on ebay. So all I have is a completey empty engine bay. Well except for the stuff bolted on the Firewall and inner fenders. I have enough other DSM cars around that I can look at thier vehicle and mine and we can figure out most of the easy stuff. Only problem is none of them have a JDM motor installed. But all are ready for me to get mine so we can try it out. I just need to know the major differences in the JDM and USDM motors. I have researched it completely but what makes it tricky is my car was already swapped from a 2G to a 1G motor. Now on top of that I want to switch it from a USDM to a JDM motor. So any help would be greatly appreciated and I will gladly post all pictures and advice from this thread so that others having the same problem can use it to answer them. Even make it as pretty as a Chilton if they prefer. So please any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If this has been answered I can't find it. I have read about a USDM to JDM swap but never one that has been swapped like the one I am trying. If it is there I can't find it. On any site so far. But I like this site the best also even before I owned the car, the one good thing the previous owner did was put a DSMTuners.com sticker in the back window. So any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Don't bother swapping to a JDM motor, they are the same and the only difference of note is the dual runner manifold which you could just swap onto a motor that you can buy locally. Being that there isn't a difference in the motors, no you wouldn't have to do anything special to get a JDM motor to work except to deal with clearance issues arising from the larger manifold.

Also, you can really just go with a 2g motor as well. For the most part the car shouldn't have been significantly modified to fit the 1g engine into it except for the wiring for the crank and cam sensors which can be returned to normal. Just look for a guide on swapping a 1g motor into a 2g to find the parts that are commonly modified and undo the modifications.

Alright thanks for the info. I am going to research on what they had to do to swap it to a 6 bolt. I wouldnt mind even going back to the 7 bolt motor. I just want to get it going. Thanks again!
