Hi there!

Its been sometime since I've been on here (all things DSM have been on hold for many yrs now)..forgot my login/password so I had to re-regisiter..hence my newbie status....

anyways I'm needing some help/advice from my DSM brothers who are familiar with the 1G awd rear hub assembly. I've had sx's of a bad rear wheel bearing (side to side play when the wheel is off the ground). So I finally was able to pull the hub from the control arm last night and to my surprise the outer wheel bearing didn't come out with the hub, but remained in the control arm. :aha:

Inspecting the area of the hub where the outer bearing would go the diameter is less than the area above it. Shouldn't it be the same diameter? I can't help to wonder if this is the true reason for the side to side play in the wheel and is not due to a bad wheel bearing!! ??

Which would mean it needs to be replaced along with the bearings, correct?

Please Help! I desperately want to get this thing back on the road!

Thanks for the space and your time in advance!
Shawn

Hummm, I realize this is not excatly and newbie ?, but after 85 views no one has any thoughts about my hub issue?.... Please any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Paul! Ya, there not to much (although Millers import quoted me $100)...If you can find them!

Thanks for the reply RsAWD, measurements of the hub are arpox. 34mm around the area where the bearing sits and 35mm's above it?

It doesn't make logical sense to have to press the bearing onto an area smaller in diameter...does it? This is also smaller than the inner dia of the bearing (aprox. 1mm)

Another important data point left out is that I slide into a curb back when I first got the car in 98....so at this point I'm guessin the hub may have gotten slightly bent when that happened causing it to ride funny on the bearing surface wearing down the hub over time...?

Thanks
Shawn
