I have a 1g talon and I heard some howling from from front wheel area figured it was a wheel bearing. I bought the whole hub assembly thinking that it was a simple take old one out put a new one in since I don't have a press to put in a new bearing only. Now it doesn't seem to be that simple at all so I have two real questions. One is do I need a press to take the hub assembly off the knuckle, or is there another way to do it? The videos I've watch were for a 2g and they were held on by bolts. And then the hub assembly from the auto parts store came with out the groves inside of it for the axle to mate up with. Do I need to press that out of the old one and reuse or did I just get the wrong part?
Thanks in advance. I can upload some pictures if I'm not being clear.
Thanks
John

When I did my front wheel stuff, it started with pulling the front axles for a rebuild/boot replacement. Sigh. Ended up buying new axles, hubs, and knuckles since those bastards (the axles) weren't coming out of the hubs. 20+ years of crap will do that. Anti-seize goop on the shaft of the new will hopefully net better results for the future AWD swap.

for which part taking the hub off the knuckle or taking the inner part of the hub out that the axle fits into, or both?
Looks like somebody has done it without a press and I looked at the thread. I did it with a press and it's easy.
A tip for getting the new bearing in. I took the old bearing and ground down the outside just a smidge and used it as the press tool to seat the new bearing. If you don't grind it the old bearing will seat a little bit also and be hard to remove
I've done the same thing with transmission bearing races.
