1G head on a 7bolt 2g bottom...11mm arps? Vice versa...12mm arps?

I was pretty sure that if you have a 2G and your using a 1G head, you can still use the 2G 7bolt 11mm ARP head studs. I thought I did this procedure before (and I have to do it again) but it's been so long and I want to make sure.

ALSO

I have to use a 6bolt bottom with a 2G head for someone else. Will this setup use the 6bolt 12mm ARP's like I think they should? Some people say the need to drill but I've read most don't need to. I want to be clear on this as well.

For anyone searching...If you are going to put a 1G head on a 2G 7bolt block, you want the 7bolt 11mm headstuds. I'll find out pretty soon about a 2G head on a 6bolt I guess...

You are right. 7 bolt block 11mm, and 6 bolt 12mm. IF you are going to be using a 2g head you MAY need to drill the holes out to accomodate for the 1mm bigger head stud. The size is block specific not head specific.
I have been able to do it without drilling and having to drill at times as well. Hope this answers what you were asking.

Dead on.

You match the head studs to the block size. The dowels in the corners of the block will locate the head correctly. The studs are just for clamping force. Make sure on 2G heads on 6-bolt blocks that you verify the head studs pass through. If not, you can either clearance port the passages or get undercut studs.

Thanks! Makes perfect sense. It makes me wonder if it has anything to do with what year 2g head you get (95-96 and 97-99). I have three 95-96 heads sitting in my garage. So when the 12mm studs come in, I'll let everyone know. Who knows, it might be interesting or even useful info to someone
