Hey guys, soon I will begin my 1991 GSX build, the car is almost fully stripped and I'm getting ready to paint the bay. Although I've been spending quite some time on taking shit apart and throwing everything around in my garage, I've spent very little time on deciding a good set-up for my engine and neglected any further thought on a good process of assembling the engine itself. This IS my first project and I have actually very little prior experience how everything works in these cars. I've never built an engine before, and I'm actually enduring quite some shock of what I've exactly gotten myself into. My goal is to get to get at least 350-400 hp.

So... Any suggestions on good internals for a even better price? How much does head work tend to cost? What kind of head work is most desirable to be done? Could I just keep a stock head with better valves/spring/cams? Would it be wise to run Ethanol (positives/negatives)? Should I keep the same stock fuel pump? What brand of injectors are good? Would 1g rods+2g pistons be a good combo for my 350-400hp goal and still maintain any sense of reliability? What is your opinion on stroker kits?

Don't even bother answering all of these questions, just shoot me any kind of advise some what related to what the hell I've just said.

TL;DR I'm loosing hope, fast.

JAM has an aweome deal on short blocks at the moment, which would be perfect for your stated power range.

I was actually looking into their shortblocks, I've never heard of them previously although I am optimistic on saving money. Hell, a Forged crankshaft I was looking at was already 90% of the price of the short-block. Have you ever had experience with their shortblocks?

Well, I'm not trying to sway you from anything but with that 91 turbo block comes a stock 6bolt.

That thing is already good to go for that HP. I know MANY people bushing that HP on a bone stock 6bolt block. Myself included.

Check out my mod list and that is what I'm pushing DAILY on my engine. Your stated HP is the same as mine and she is reliable as hell.

So, my advice, replace ALL SEALS with a stock Mitsu seal. Check out extremepsi for a complete set of seals.

I'd also delete the balance shaft while there.

Take your time with this and do NOT cheap out.

Sorry I didn't state so earlier, I actually bought this car a shell, all that was in were the drivetrain, everything else excluding that and the breaks are done.

So I have a blank canvas to deal with, and I'm not so keen on 'painting'.

If everything were all there I wouldn't be so worried. Haha:D
