AWD and FWD have no difference with the bolt layout.

I wouldn't think they would be THAT different, I don't have a FWD mind you. Just look around near the bottom of your tranny and it should be pretty obvious where the drain plug is. On AWD's it's on the front passenger bottom corner of the tranny and the splash guard kind of hides it. Make sure you're able to break the fill plug loose before you drain the fluid - just in case.

Edit* I think I found it, check this out, just below the passenger axle:

He's asking about a 1g, the 2g's are different. I've had two 1g, FWD transmissions (1 turbo, 1 n/t) and they were both like the picture that Lofty posted. Fill bolt on the mid/top of the front and drain on the lower passenger side.

I'll be one to disagree here. Here is the front of my 1G FWD transmission. The bolt basically in the center could be your fill hole but doesn't necessarily have to be.

The drain on mine is just like -red97rum- and luv2rallye posted, as can be seen here. It is the big bolt in the bottom left corner:

Personally, I use the reverse sensor hole to fill the transmission, it is slow and steady, but it works just as well as any other fill hole. For the record, I have three 1G FWD transmissions, two turbo and one non-turbo, and each of them are similar to this setup.

EDIT: And to put this one to rest, for a 1G FWD manual transmission, these ARE the locations...

First that is a beautiful transmission! Is that yours? Second, I find that interesting that the bolt layout is different on 1g FWD transmissions. Both of mine were 1991's that came off 6-bolt engines. Your?

I suppose I should further qualify my statement: mine (pictured) and the non-turbo are both '90 models while the other turbo is a '91. I am 99% certain it is the same on the '91, but with so much skepticism floating around, I'll have to double-check it a little later when it isn't raining so bad or see if I can find a picture of it.

I'll report back.

Edit: Confirmed, the '91 is the same.

If it weren't so nasty outside, I'd take better pics, but here's what I got of the '91.

Browsing through a 1991 Talon/Laser service manual for something else, I found this and figured I would post it up.
