I'm looking for a fmic for a 91 gst. I was wondering what the best kit would be if i want to keep it looking stock. I don't really want to cut the bumper a whole lot, and take out the fog lights. Is there any kit out there that will keep the stock look? If i have to i can throw out the fog lights, but i really want to keep the bumper looking stock. I'm new to the dsm :dsm: world so i don't really have anyone i know to help me, or at least not people i would trust working on my car. I have always liked eclipses and now i have one but I'm just starting to learn about them so I'm just looking for some advice.

To hide the silver (clear-anodized) look, some have spraypainted the front of the core and endtanks. This will hinder a bit of heat conduction, but if you only spray the front edge of a 3"-thick core, it might not matter enough that you'd care. The other option is anodizing it black. I helped a guy anodize once, and it didn't seem too complicated, but I don't know how much oxide you can take off of the thin turbulators (squiggly parts between the bars) with the nitric (I think) acid before you eat through it. You might be able to buy them that way, too, but it might (probably will) add to the cost.

For more information, I'd search on "anodized FMIC" or "black FMIC" or something. I know I read a thread a year or so ago discussing painting/anodizing ICs black.

I can understand wanting to keep a clean look but the fact of the matter is...your not going to hide a frount mount intercooler by spraypainting it. And why would you want to hide that? Most kits your going to have to cut the front bumper cover a little. We're not driving evo that already have a frount mount in that space. Your going to have to remove a lot of stuff to make a front mount fit correctly.

A silver FMIC in the grille is MUCH more noticeable than a black one.

you can put a fmic on it and not cut out the bumper a lot and then either spray paint it or get like metal mesh and put it up on your bumper to help hide the fmic look.

yea i talked to some people and they said the same as people on here, paint it flat black or put mesh or something in front of it. But i found one im thinking of getting.
this is it RRE Griffin/Spearco 1G I/C Kit Install Instructions
please tell me if anyone knows if its worth it, i dont want to buy something that wouldnt be as good as it says

Um ya I know that. I just really don't understand the whole "sleeper" trend. If your faster than the other guy what's the point on hiding something?

So you don't attract the attention of every John Q Law and Brian O'Connor-wannabe out there. Sometimes, I just want to drive home at my own pace and not theirs. ROFL

Anyway, if someone on the street wants to race you, don't they normally come from behind?

awesome yea thats my whole thing i don't want every kid with a intake and muffler on his moms honda to try to race me, it get irritating drive the speed limit just trying to get home when someone is next to you the whole time revving up their motor, and this is the whole reason i want a fmic that wont atract lots of attention, im not looking for like 400-500 hp so i don't need a huge intercooler with half my bumper missing. but i think thats what im going to do is paint it black or get mesh for it.

For me, it's a modesty thing. I don't want my car saying, "Look at me, I have (or think I have) a souped-up car!" Different strokes for different folks, as they say. I just spent *all day* messing with cutting up my 3" exhaust to put a stock-ish looking, twin-tip magnaflow on in place of the gawd-awefully-loud can muffler, because it drew attention (that's an understatement...I set off car alarms in the parking garage at work OMG). If you're not like that, I can see why maybe you don't get it. Don't know if that explains it or not.

Nothing better than going to the local drag strip with a stock looking car and laying some numbers. or winning some cash of a punk who has a 5.0 because you have a stock looking car and spanking him (at the track of course)
