Hi guys. I'm fighting a engine skip on cylinder one.
Engine compression check is good. 150psi across all cyls.
Piston 1 top looks "wet" compared to other the other 3 when looking down the spark plug hole. So I'm assuming its getting fuel...
Brand new wires and plugs. Now I'm installing 2 new coils as my last hailmary. (what a bi*** to get out btw...)
Old coils say "use with a transistor ignition"
New coils say "use with a electronic ignition"
Should I try to install these new coils? Or am I wasting my time?
Any other typical problem it could be?

Sorry. I'm new to old Mitsubishis. I'm getting kinda discouraged and frustrated. Please spoon feed me. =]

Definately a bad coil if u visually checked for no spark directly from coil but swap a wire just to be sure it's not the wire.

Could be the power transistor .. Did the same with me - had one bad then two bad cylinders.

Thought it was coil but turned out that inside the power transistor, one of the two transistors had shorted across causing the misfire and eventual dead cylinders.

Replaced that unit and all was good afterwards.

Good luck - DSM

I feel like nobody is reading my first post.
My question is:
What is the difference between "Electronic" and "Transistor" type ignitions? Being specific to the 1991 model year GSX.
Is there a difference? Or are they just worded differently?
I HAVE NEW COILS ALREADY. New coils say Electronic. Old ones say Transistor.
The Mitsubishi dealer knows nothing and can not help me.
The local parts store also have no other option for me.

To continue for future reference. The 2 new coils labeled differently than the originals did "work", but the engine is still misfiring.
Upon pulling the brand new plugs out, I noticed the porcelain of cyl 1was noticeably whiter than the other 3.
I swapped the #1 and #2 injectors and again installed 4 more fresh brand new spark plugs and left the engine idle for about 40 seconds.
Pulled them back out, and the #2 porcelain is the most white. Like never used white, comparably to the other 3.
So I ordered 4 new injectors. They should be here in about a week. I'll post my results after they are installed.

You could try to clean the injectors, maybe they are clogged my 1g did this as well, but after my DIY injector cleaning service, done on my work bench, the car ran perfectly again, also measure the resistance on the suspected injector [injectors] to see if it falls within oem spec... now I know you feel that you likely fixed your problem here, but it never hurts to be certain it is the culprit.

Also if you haven't lately done this service, have the fuel filter replaced with a new oem unit [and I know it's a lot of work, but if you have the time, and or you have not lately done this] you should also inspect the in-tank fuel pump pickup screen as well.

To continue... I received my injectors. I started by only replacing the one I thought was bad. Fired it up AND THE SKIP WAS GONE!!!! =]
So then I ripped it all back apart, replaced the other 3, new fuel filter, new timing belt and new balance shaft belt.
I decided to keep the balance shaft as this is a street car, plus I'm into keeping it stock, for now... =]
