yea i have a 91 laser rs non turbo.and it seems to sputter and missfire once in a while.as it does not do it all the time but when it does man you no it does.just sputters and all that kinda sounds like its small backfiring so ### help me guys thanks.

Jeez, I may make my quota just answering your problems man! I had a 92 Laser RS and it would do something similar. Check for cracks or holes in the rubber section of your intake. If there's no holes and you've checked you timing, see if there's any damage to the honeycombs of your MAS. IF all that's good and you've checked everything else from the other threads you have, look for more vacuum leaks. You seem to be having a ton of problems with this car, soap it down and see where the bubbles are coming from. You may have more than one leaking gasket somewhere and I don't know if you re-used or bought new when you put everything back together.

haha thanks 90moneypit.and as for problems i think its just a bunch of minor things i mean i have new plug and wires.but i never gaped them they said form the box that there were gaped.rite but i dont know as for leaking gaskets i needed a never valve cover gasket badly.casue there was oil coming in by the spark plugs and junk.so i am not for sure about how if the oil coming in would casue a missfire.but i am sure it would help with new gasket.as for making your qouta i hope i do man its the least i could do since you been helping me a lot with this car.but hey i only paid 160 buck from a dearlship.and she still ran so i am not complaing.well kinda casue i didnt have the money rite away and loved the car so i trade my thunderbird for it.LOL so with the car not running rite know i am using my lambofeetys but thanks

and as to blinky619 what.are coil are you speaking of casue i am a noob with dsm.love the cars.but they can be a pain the in ***

The coil he is referring to is your coil pack. You will find this pretty much bolted inside the "U" of your intake manifold, and it's what's connected to your plug wires. Check for any loose wires coming out of it (plug wires as well as the actual wiring) look for any cracks, or spot on the metal where arcing may be occuring. I had a wire on mine that would do the same thing. I could get into it easy, and it was all good. If I launched, the G forces pulled the wire back close enough to arc to the metal on the coil pack. It would almost throw me out the windshield when it happened. Yeah...get ready for a good time. I bought my laser turbo 4 years ago...still trying to get all the little "quirks" out.

With the leaking oil in the plug holes I'd suspect that more than a bad coil on acceleration. A bad coil would act up more frequently. By gaskets I meant the other gaskets like TB, intake, and exhaust gaskets but if the VC gasket is putting oil in the plugs... well I guess that would count too! Yeah, check the gap on the plugs and look for fouling. Don't fall for the split-fire multi prong style plugs either. Plain old copper plugs are fine for a NT. I went insane and bought Iridium plugs for my old Laser and saw ZERO improvement over the cheap autolites I had put in there temporarily.

thank bro i was plaing on either cleaning the tb.or just taking off the whole thing and doing deep cleaning and try and replace the gaskets and as for gapping what would be for a n/t laser rs then if you would happen to know guys thanks.

...ya, these manuals beats Chilton's or Haynes any day of the week - excellent and valuable resources for DSM owners ....

Unless you have a really cheap printer or access to printing for free... There's no replacement for having a book right there to look at. I don't know about you but I don't like getting grease on my laptop :D. The Factory Manual is awesome but awfully hard to read if you don't have your computer handy is more or less what I'm getting at.

Get both! Study the FM but keep the Haynes (better than Chiltons for 1g's) in the car for jogging your memory or for those late night side of the road romance sessions (aw come on baby, pleeeeaaaaasssseeee! Just once, pleaaaaaassseee!) that will happen no matter how much maintenance you do.
